Oh man that's a beautiful finish. Especially with that neck pickup. And one piece tailpiece.

Nice, how did you de-pot them? I used a heat gun at arm's length one time, but it was on an old pickup that I potted myself. I dunno anything about how newer ones are constructed.
Can you use Bigsbys the shurrgaaazey where you hold on to the arm while strumming, like on a Jazzmaster? Does the Bigsby arm even rotate without you having to chop it up or spend $120 for a different one?

Not really, it doesn't spin freely. It'll go down without a problem but you don't have much range upwards.Achtane wrote:Can you use Bigsbys the shurrgaaazey where you hold on to the arm while strumming, like on a Jazzmaster? Shouldn't be impossible to fix with a dremel. Just have to have some ambition.
At the same time, Bigsby trems usually are more sensitive than Jazzy trems. So it might detune it too much to sound natural.

I definitely need something with a wang bar, but it's not gonna be this SG. For me the whole point, or at least one of them, is the wraptail. I like the extra little zip in the treble and the immediacy of how it feels under my palm.
Might consider a bigsby on my modded Dot, but more likely it'll mean an additional guitar. Possibly/hopefully one of the cheap offset baritones from Rondo.

Two hair dryers, went pretty quickly. Made a mess though, make sure to do it over newspaper, drop cloth, something disposable.Achtane wrote:Nice, how did you de-pot them? Re: what did you do to your SG?(or clone/copy/whatever)
does depotting give you microphonics?
more output?
whats the bennys?
when i look for old crappys
i usually look for unpotted
but only cause the teiiscos are
and they sound insane under immense pedal pressure
not sure if it has to do with lack of wax

Re: what did you do to your SG?(or clone/copy/whatever)
My '80 Gibson SG Standard. When I bought it about 13 year ago, someone had painted it yellow, it had cigarette burns and some major dents in the neck, flat frets and the pickups were crapped out.

Stripped it, had the neck shaved down to get the dents out (still really beefy), neck rebound, new nut, frets replaced, new pickups (SD Pearly Gates in the Neck, Custom Custom in the bridge...been wanting to throw something else in there for years actually, but they're decent), RS Guitarworks wiring harness, new tuners and had Marty Bell give it a new brown to black burst paintjob. The only things original on it now besides the body itself are the pickguard, cavity cover, truss rod cover, pickup selector knob and switch. I'm not sweating all the parts not being "vintage", because it was a hunk of junk and I got it cheap. I kept the only thing worth keeping, the nice mahogany body, and replaced everything that was broken or nearly destroyed and got a nice guitar out of it that I've enjoyed playing for a long time.

Re: what did you do to your SG?(or clone/copy/whatever)
what did you mean by "ENJOYED" corey?
did yo sell that thing?
if it needs a new home please let me know
that color just rules
finally won a wilkinson wigsby on ebay
for those who never seeen one
its gonna go on the teisco monstrosity
im also gonna eliminate the tone knobs on that
maybe even the bridge volume control
have one knob for the dubbleteiscos
in when i have both bridge and neck selected
i get no sognal from thebridge if the teiscos are at 10
if i dial them back to 5 i get a mixof both
problem is if i switch to just the teiscos then its real low
so i still need a knob for them
i was thinkin maybe a kill toggle in one of the spots
any other ideas to fill the vol/tone holes
with gadgets i mean
im already set up to put wood in there
