That didn't work out so well, because I couldn't fill demand very quickly. The list was filling up 10 times faster than I was being able to make and sell them, and people at the end of the list were totally discouraged (totally understandable).

I think based on the amount that you build compared to the interest in them the 'heres five fastest gets them' is really the only way to do it for know.

That looks awesome. Bumps in the road will pass eventually. But that looks noice!!!
I probably won't try for it this time around as I'm not really a tabletop kind of guy. But when that foot switch comes around....
I'm going Scorpion on it's ass.

Maybe you're just too nice? This sort of list with extreme waiting times has worked well for people like Ed Rembold / Toneczar. I can totally get how that sort of stuff might bring you down. I'm sure it would for me. But maybe if you distance yourself from the customers emotionally and make it clear that waiting time might be something like 1.5 - 4 years and you don't take upfront payment there is nothing unfair about it. People would know what they sign up for. Just like people that get on the list for an Echoczar know it will take a couple of years until they get it.

Sorry, but to me a wait list of years is unacceptable. Especially because I might phase out a version for another, which I tend to do.phantasmagorovich wrote:cloudscapes wrote:That didn't work out so well, because I couldn't fill demand very quickly. A waitlist might be a good way for you to gauge interest for when you want to do this full time, but long as you're just putting out small incidental batches this Hi, here's stuff, GO! approach makes the most sense for you.cloudscapes wrote:Sorry, but to me a wait list of years is unacceptable. Yeah, I think you're right on that. As much as the current system is kind of annoying (I was one of those who missed out on the newest Hollow Earth batch despite emailing really quickly), unless you get to a point where you ramp up production quite a bit these small batches is probably the best option.cloudscapes wrote:Sorry, but to me a wait list of years is unacceptable. I'm pretty intrigued by the Anti-Nautilus too, despite the fact that I don't understand the majority of what you said about it.
