Because several fuzz boxes sound like the fucking apocalypse with a decent Vox amp :doom:
Truth!

My Science Shiv (only true AC30 style amp I've owned) sounds incredible with amp dirt or fuzz. And them cleans chime so well. That said, it def won't do super high volume cleans but the clean-ish and overdrive toanz are tops, excels with these. Kinda ratty and mean but still huge and very unique. I love my Tele and Jazzy thru that amp. Love.

OKAY, so, side by side, can the shiv match the volume of a V4 with gain and master both at noon? Or. at least be close? This is all that is stopping me.

I don't think so. But it's not decibel level that would be the issue, it's the fact that a V4 has such a huge amount of punch and girth. Then again, an AC30 through a 4x12 with sensitive speakers compared to a V4 through a 2x12 with low sensitive speakers, I think they'd come close. The Vox would be gritty as fuck, and bright and cutting, while the V4 will be fat and burly, but they'd go nicely together, at a guess.

You could always look into an AC100.

No way dude.

Angrygoldfish's explanation is pretty much right on. I don't know that it's so much an issue of true volume but perceived volume just isn't that same. The V4 roars when compared. I think you'd need the 100W model to compare unless you want the AC30 raging at all times. The absence control on the Shiv rules to tame the brightness and edginess at super high volume tho. An EQ ped would probably do the same for a Vox.

Keep in mind, I only run it through a pair of stacked 1x12s. I'll check it out with a 4x12 pretty soon here. :thumb:

Got a secondhand AD4096 on the way. I'm not much of a delay guy, really, but love the way these things sound, especially with fuzz. Behndy's bass video tipped me over the edge.
Love the design, too. Thing just looks cool.
