Who actually likes Eli Roth other than gore fans?

I love dear old Quentin. Even his weaker movies I enjoy, which in my book is only one: Death Proof. But as for Scott, Robin Hood was actually one of those disappointments that I wish I never knew existed. Prometheus was a let down, as was Hannibal, Kingdom of Heaven, G.I. Jane and American Gangster. I think because his movies are so hyped, when they're only worthy of a few stars, I kinda see it as a failure. All the films I mentioned, with the exception of Robin Hood and G.I. Jane, are all '3 star' movies, IMO, but they were still disappointmenting.

Noomi Rapace, she was the most awesome character as Lisbeth, but I also dug the American version as well. They were both wonderfully acted and portrayed, but I preferred the Swedish versions.

Agreed.

It was so perfect. O' Brother is up there as my favourite comedies ever. The visual style, the make-up and outfits, the sound and music, the perfect comedic timing, the outlandish characters, the music, the music, it was all perfect.

Just what I want to do for 2.5 hours. Sit there with my heart pounding waiting on something to startle me. Fuck that noise.

Movies in general are stupid to me; there are a few that I like no doubt,...but I'm always exhausted by the end.

About a minute after a movie starts I'm ready for it to be over. Maybe it's an attention span thing. :idk:
I don't like big budget horror movies either. I don't think many movie fans do. They're basically glorified blowjob pictures. You take your date to one and get a BJ because she can't stand how scary it is. They also make a lot of money and don't cost as much to make as a comic book adaptation, so yeah.

if that's Takashi Miike then you're dead inside and i weep for your emptiness.

huh. i should go back and watch the Swedish version now that i've got some space from the books. i finished the third one while i had the Swedish trilogy waiting for me, and i was amazed at how shitty they made Author Avatar Investigate Journalist Guy Lumquist's boss. she was about the exact opposite of the book's portrayal of her.

It is. Weep away.

Ridley Scott is a fantastic director, though. About to run out the door, but you can't just judge a director on the scale of his movies--sounds counterintuitive, isn't.
Agreed.

See, that's wild, because I see OBWAT? as a very American movie. Not to the degree of something like Nashville, but it's interesting that something like that translates (even if it's not translating very far).

Now I feel like an idiot. I wasted my youth not getting dome during horror flicks.

I just don't think he's a particularly great director.

But I haven't sought out many of his movies, so, you know. grain of salt.

I'm not judging them based on their scale alone. If you took away Ridley Scott's name, flicks like Robin Hood and G.I. Jane would equate to a passable, forgettable Hollywood Summer blockbuster that does averagely well in the box office; not enough to make a sequel, but enough to make everyone a little richer. Ridley Scott is a great director; he's one of my favourites. But in my opinion he's made too many forgettable movies, irrelevant of my preconceived notions or his stature as a director, for me to leave him out here.

Street Fighter the movie in middle school... not another soul in the theater besides myself and the girl who wanted to go. She was topless 5 minutes into the movie (maybe Van Damme got her going?). After fooling around throughout the movie we came walking out the exit to the whole crew of high school dudes working there. I... was pretty embarrassed. They just stared at us as we left the theater.

The only Alien movies i've seen have been Resurrection and Prometheus. I bought a 4 movie boxset for $30au, I plan on changing this.

Not implying they're overrated, just felt compelled to actually see them. I'm in a pretty big Dead Space phase so I may as well see the thing that the games blatantly rip-off.

Just watch the first two movies and forget the rest...

Prometheus was all right, but I really quite liked Alien 3.
