i always scoff quietly to myself when a builder says "it sounds like no other fuzz ever made anywhere it is a unique and beautiful butterfly fuck YOU brad pitt this is the monkey shot into space LOOOOOVEEEEE MEEEEEEEE" like Spency Spence said over on the TB's. but that DOES sound good.
not like, rewriting the fuzz, but tasty. MEOW.

I like the SFT with a higher voltage than 9v. It sounds decent at the low voltage, but there's no headroom and it sounds kind of compressed. But there is plenty of bass in it.
Run at 18v I bet it would be great. I've done 12v and it sounded better already.

It's RRreeaallly nice. It's like the perfect type of synth/fuzz to really bring out the jizz in any filter (especially the Proton) as you can hear in the vid.
The upper octaves are AWESOME, and unlike some other octavey/synth/fuzz/whatever pedals, this one is super-controllable by your playing. It can be really tame or super in-your-face - all depending how hard you dig in.

I hear you on the whole love your career dealio. I'm currently balancing about 50/50 where half of my income is from waiting tables and the other half is from gigging and teaching bass lessons. I wish I could just quit waiting tables because I too hate behnding over for the gluttons who demand unlimited soup salad and bread. But I have bills like everyone else. If I could rustle up like 20 more students throughout my week or two more regular gigs I could pull it off, but until then I'm sticking with loving half of what I do and hating the other half.
At 18v the SFT becomes much less farty and much more ... 'distortion-like'. LOTS of smoother gain is added throughout it's range. Definitely sounds a lot better cranked in 18v mode.
But no roar, no grind to speak of. It seems to be good at VERY low gain tones, where it does add a certain warmth of character (toobsiness) and a bit of compression. But it sounds it's best a bit tooo low-gain for me... B15 ish smooth fingerstyle stuff... getting your slightly hairy motown on ..
Looking to replace it with a Mini or a Savior Machine. (Or maybe a Talons). I bought it as somewhat of a "breaking-up tube amp simulator" to run various dirt into but it doesn't play that well with others.
