probably

Can I just throw something out that I think makes sense and we can see what we think about it?
A reasonable definition for equality is: equal basic rights (by this I refer predominantly to protection from external threats), and equal opportunity for agency equivalent to applied ability (that's a bit of a mouthful, but it's the only way I could think of conveying the idea concisely).
So, I think, if you agree with that, then you are likely a humanist, not a feminist or men's rights proponent. If you do not believe in that, and you are a feminist or men's rights proponent (is there a shorthand for that the way there is for feminism?) then it is likely you are a misogynist or misandrist.
This is a question in part of semantics, but I think it is a valuable distinction.
*This is all worded for gender, but if you changed it a bit, I think the same ideas apply to all questions of equality (race, ethnicity, etc.).
** Damn it I let myself get sucked into this.

Is it? To use by way of analogy something - I think it was Hitchens that said it - about religion: When people are saying how good or reasonable a religious person is, they are almost always talking about the extent to which the person is not in fact religious. To put it another way, if you are reasonable then you are not actually religious - even if you yourself identify as such.
*Sigh. This is likely to offend a whole other set of people...
**I am very much against beliefs in general. My favourite quote is probably "Belief is the death of intelligence." - Robert Anton Wilson.

Misandry is kind of like the wendigo/Bigfoot/yeti of gender, race, creed discrimination.
And the humanist/feminist + dudeilist dichotomy is probably a false one, or at least undercooked.
BUT! while I do appreciate talking about boobs--as in people of low intelligence or opinions that paint persons as such--I would much rather talk about boobs--as in breasts.
to my mind, yes. "they are almost always talking about the extent to which the person is not in fact religious." that paints with a pretty broad brush but the point is well taken. that being said, religion is not an outgrowth of repression, it's genesis is, again being general, a matter of conjecture. feminism is like all other movements for equality that proceeded and followed it just that, movements for equal treatment. are there double standards? to be sure and in spades, but they pale in comparison to the total oppression of women through the vast majority of history. to say that they are not equal to other struggles for equal treatment basically means to value some other intrinsic part of human identity like race or sexual orientation over gender, or requires a removal of gender typing at all.
