Where do you live?

Post by friendship »

Give me your home address and PIN numbers.

No but seriously, what city/town are you in? What do you like about it? What do you dislike about it?

I've been living in Brooklyn for 7 years and it's great, but the cost of living never stops going up and I've gone from barely-affording-it to basically-in-poverty so I need to find a new place to go, but I've never lived anywhere else and don't know anything like a dumb dummy.

Nashville. It sucks dick. For being a "music capital" I feel like there's barley any music here besides rAdio whores and cover bands.

I live in Lethbridge Alberta, Canada. It's okay, there's a good music community and lots of like minded people that are cool, but this town is mostly hicks and a homeless problem.

I live in Boston.
I like it. A lot.
Its... reasonable to live here.
Not as cheap as Montreal was, but eh. for a city? its probably alright.
There is a fair amount of musicians here, judging by the gear on craigslist. I'm a hermit so I don't know. Berklee college of music?
We have lots of art, and are really liberal. smoke weed in the park, get gay married.
I mean the last congressional race I voted in I had to choose between the extremely liberal democrat or the openly gay republican.

uh...

one of the cheapest public transportation?

the ocean?

great food?

Mitt Romney?

Universal Health Care, before it was cool?

Hmmm...
this summer behind my house in a park there was a DIY fest that just set up shop, had a couple bands play, lots of anarchist literature, acoustic "area" in the woods. I dunno, stuff like that happens. Its neato

Really inspiring place.

The good/decent neighborhoods: most of the South & East, Park/East ave, Southwedge, the 19th Ward, North Winton/Browncroft.
More ghetto spots: more of the West & North, not too familiar with them aside from driving/biking through.

We have a lot of cool shit here that I don't fully appreciate sometimes. Its big enough to get a good amount of weird/alternative culture but small enough to be fairly cheap and easy to navigate. A LOT OF REALLY GOOD FOOD. Lots of snazzy & affordable restaurants, and Wegmans (aka the best grocery store ever) was born here. Great public markets. A lot of parks, too. There are some music gems but not a ton; but we do have a club/bar (the Bug Jar) that runs 5-7 shows a week and they have some weird shit there sometimes.

I've been thinking about breaking out and living elsewhere, but that's mainly because I grew up here and want to experience a bigger city. I still love living here. But the weather can be unpredictably bitchy.

philadelphia. i lived in brooklyn for almost 4 years before i lived here and i've been here now for almost 4 years.
SO MUCH MORE CHILL THAN NYC... but severely lacking in 80-90% of the things that make NYC amazing. it's ok though if you want things low-key with plenty of good food, decent bars and a quick 2-hour commute to NYC.

Virginia Beach. Come to chill in a timeshare at the longest beach in the worrrrrlllllddddddd
Stay for the...uh. Military presence? Oh, last year an F/A-18 blew the fuck up in the middle of an apartment complex 5 minutes from my house and it made the national news :idk:
My friend has to have "explosion insurance" for his apartment.
Well Mount Trashmore is cool. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Trashmore_Park
I think Tony Hawk won his first contest there. Paradoxically, we have the East Coast Surf Championship even though there are never any waves except for near the jetty.
There's a long-ass bridge-tunnel here, too.
The lack of an art/music scene is depressing. Melt-Banana played here once and it was the most glorious night. I'm still amazed that they came.
You have to have a car if you wanna do anything.
The much hipper Norfolk is nearby and it can be fun as it's an actual city instead of a tourist attraction.

There's nothin' to do here, although it is nice to walk around the oceanfront in the morning when it's not tourist season.
I wanna move to Richmond or something.

I've lived in northern Colorado for something like 95% of my life. Fort Collins is a relatively easy place to live if you can get a decent job. The music scene is getting getting better at a glacial pace, though. Mainly bluegrass and jam with some white rastafarian dudes. But the indy/folk/rock thing is kind of getting bigger and there are some cool DIY type peoples up there. The CSU campus attracts a fair amount of ethnic diversity, but without it the place would be pretty damn white. Also, LOTS OF COLLEGE STUDENTS. Which can be good or bad, depending on things....

I just moved to Denver to get a more diverse music and art scene....but I honestly haven't been here long enough to give a detailed impression of it. I know there's a decent weirdo/noise scene here and I've played a couple shows, but beyond that only time will tell me :idk:
