Alt Tunings & Fun Chord Time

The interval between them going from low to high is a major third, the same as going from the G to the B string in standard. I've had multiple people tell me that the open chord reminds them of the guitar music in the first Diablo game. It's really fun.

Went back to New standard style tuning on my baritone. After playing in a ton of different tunings lately, I do have to agree with many musicians out there that fifths style tuning does, in fact, "just make more sense." Somehow, once you get used to it, and learn some scales for it, you can jump from one octave to another more easily, make interesting chords more easily...... yep.

I too am really enjoying fifths tuning lately. My tiny little wuss string broke but fuck that thing anyway, all it has ever done is get in my way.
It just feels good. Sometimes I try weird tunings just for the sake of having a non-standard tuning, and I spend so much time jumping between them that I barely even play and get to know the tunings.
I'll just stick with fifths for a while.

As a side note, I hate wrapping the smallest strings sooooo muuuuuch, especially if they've already been cut and used before. Jesus.

Have you tried using new standard tuning? That way the highest string isn't a fifth higher, but only a third. It helps with the tension, especially if you're in actual new standard.

If I'm able to find a store that carries the strings I found out about on DR website + get duosonic put back together (need to get around to drawing up a pickguard shape cus machinist friend said he'd make me one), I might end up tuning to CG/FDGBE. It's a the tuning that Soundgarden uses on "Fourth of July", but I might do it with the 5th string tuned to G instead of F because I normally prefer it for stuff I play, but I've also been starting to use 5th chords pulled off to 4th chords/inverted 5th chords/whatever quite a bit, so I dunno . I've always had fun in that tuning, and I'd really like to be able to use it again without having to mess around with swapping individual strings.

I'd like to start incorporating more keyboard into the music I'm writing, but also be able to switch to guitar, and if I end up with things played in the key of lowest note on guitar, I'd like to have the lowest end of keyboard if necessary. I also hate playing in B on keyboard, so B tunings aren't something I'm willing to deal with for that.

Gave the fucked up B tuning that Mike Sullivan used on Memorial a try ( B-F#-C-F-G-B )

EADF#BE, EADF#AE, and EADF#AD all sound great with power chords on the lower strings and the higher strings open/droning. CGDGBE and EADAAE are good fun too. Eb and D tuning are neat too, just because open chords sound really nice then. But yeah, I find myself sticking with standard for the most part too.

I just bought a Jazzy and the guy gave it to me in a weird tuning that I'm enjoying: EG#BF#BD#
I really love the way a straight barre chord sounds in it.
Still haven't tuned it back to standard.

I LOVE alternate tunings.

I mostly write in D-A-E-A-C#-D or F-A-C-G-C-e.
(Both of which I shamelessly stole from American Football, I think)
The two songs in my sig are in those tunings, respectively.

In that first tuning I listed, I love the C#-D right next to each other.
It adds a really cool quality to the sound and I kind of just use them as drone strings, practically.
