Well, shit. I did not anticipate the Niners putting up a stinker last night. Now I REALLY need Bernard to do something tonight, down by 8.6 points.hclapp219 wrote:Hopkins did well for you todaybigchiefbc wrote:And of course Freddy scores a TD today. I would be feeling a little better if my defense and kicker gave me more than 1 point combined, but oh well.

As a Seahawks fan, I couldn't wait for last nights game! But... Like and IDIOT, I sat the Seahawks defense and Russell Wilson (who only did slightly better then Kap). I didn't think they the defense would do so well... AGAIN! Woot! Sorry 49er Fans. No disrespect intended. Just happy about it.D.o.S. wrote:Glad I stayed up to watch Seahawks completely dismantle the 49ers.

Well another crazy week is in the books! As for myself, it came down to the Monday night game, and I was sweating until the 4th quarter.
8 of the 12 teams in the league are clustered at 1-1, so it's tough to get a read on which teams are the ones to beat going forward.

I was shocked when I heard about the trade. I guess Cleveland is eying some peeps in the draft or they're looking to trade it and get more. One things for sure... It's going to be a long year for Brown's fans I think...

Re: NFLILF Fantasy Football 2013 Edition
they probably are lusting after teddy bridgewater, louisville qb. by trading away trent richardson for a presumed mid/late 1st round pick (apparently 1 year of wear is worth a half-a-round worth of draft position), they are simultaneously (pretty much) throwing their season & putting together a better package to trade up for the #1 overall.
that is, in the event the browns don't finish with the worst record. the jags look like they could, but i think their offense will come around. and whoever else ends up being really bad. anyway, my point is, whoever does finish with the worst record is almost certainly going to need a franchise qb.
if this is the case, it seems highly unlikely the browns are going to be able to trade up to get bridgewater. which means their best value is going to be a stud grunt type player in the early 1st round, then they have the later pick in the 1st round where there will be some qb's taken, realistically. though it is hard to judge at this point.
and those qb's could be huge busts (in fact i think they all will be except bridgewater), the browns front office will all get fired again, yet nothing changes, and the browns continue to be the browns. the trent richardson trade will eventually be considered one of the worst of all time, among the great ones such as herschel walker, and roy williams for 2 first rounders (LOL)
^my best guess
i'm a colts fan and the colts just filled a huge need for years to come
just a little better on defense and o line and you now have the foundation of a potential dynasty, team of the decade type team
defenses now have to respect the colts run game, this is going to open up their pass offense in major ways
add.: terry bridgewater highlights from last year. he's a dual threat qb, video speaks for itself on his arm

I respect your opinion, but I definitely disagree with you. I don't think the Colts got a bad deal, but I don't think Richardson is as good as we all thought he was coming out of college. I know the Browns don't have the greatest offensive line, but Richardson is putting up terrible per-rush averages, and more importantly, just isn't breaking any big plays at all. Even RBs on shitty team occasionally break out a big run. Richardson just isn't. He only had a few runs over 20 yards last year, and none so far this year. I remember when he was coming out of college, everyone said he was the best RB to come out since Peterson, but Peterson showed in his first year that he could blow a run open to the house at any time. Richardson has just never shown that. I think he's a good RB, but he's not a franchise centerpiece, which is what the 3rd pick in the draft should be.pigmaker wrote:they probably are lusting after teddy bridgewater, louisville qb. by trading away trent richardson for a presumed mid/late 1st round pick (apparently 1 year of wear is worth a half-a-round worth of draft position), they are simultaneously (pretty much) throwing their season & putting together a better package to trade up for the #1 overall.

I think Lombardi knows what he's doing, and he's selling Richardson now, when his value is the highest it will ever be. If he hung onto Richardson for another year, and he put up another year of 250 rushes at 3.5 yards a pop, his value would go down, and maybe only fetch a second rounder. I agree with you that they're going for Bridgewater, and I think the Browns will be bad enough to get him. And then the Colts pick will probably be in the mid-to-late teens, and that's gonna be a nice piece, either on the line or on the D. I think they think they can replace what they were getting from Richardson in a later round. (Lombardi loves to talk about the Pats, who got Vereen and Ridley in the 2nd and 3rd round). And between Jordan Cameron and Josh Gordon, they're building the nucleus of what will eventually be a good team. I like the trade for the Browns, but I won't kill the Colts for it either. I consider it a rare win-win trade.
EDIT: Just to throw in a little barb against TRich, here is a stat that Matthew Berry tweeted that made me double take.
One of these guys is Trent Richardson so far in his career. The other is Mark Ingram. Just sayin'

Re: NFLILF Fantasy Football 2013 Edition
As a Browns fan, I truly understand this trade from a football perspective, but we're just... fucking sick of losing. I'm not alone in thinking in the long run this might be a good deal, but with the track record of talent evaluation in our front office, I'm skeptical. We have a guy with talent and potential and got rid of him so the FO can get "our guy" whoever that may wind up being. It's just the same goddamn story year after year and this shouldn't mean so much but it fucking feels AWFUL to have the white flag for this year waved in front of our faces AGAIN. Y'know?
That said, Trent's fantasy value just went way up. YAY

Re: NFLILF Fantasy Football 2013 Edition
I totally understand how you feel, I was there for a long time with the Pats, who were fucking terrible for close to a decade in the 80s and 90s. But what I would say is that it isn't just about "getting our guy". The real center of it is that you just can't build a winning team around a RB in this league anymore. The Titans tried with CJ and the Vikes have tried with AP. They're awesome backs, and they may steal you a game here and there, but they're not consistently good teams, year in and year out. You need to start with a QB, and then add pieces around him. Weeden was just a colossal mistake, and that mistake is the reason why this trade had to happen.pelliott wrote:As a Browns fan, I truly understand this trade from a football perspective, but we're just... fucking sick of losing. Look at that 2012 draft. The Colts, Browns and Redskins were all terrible teams, between 2-14 and 6-10. The Browns went RB, the other two went QB. The Colts and Redskins went to the playoffs, the Browns were still terrible. And to circle back to my Pats, Bledsoe took them from a joke to the playoffs in 2 years, and to a super bowl two years later.
The sad truth of it is that although you need a RB to win consistently, you don't need an elite RB. You do need an elite or near-elite QB. A great QB and a mediocre RB is good enough in this league. If the Browns don't get the first pick, well now they can add in the Colts first and a couple other picks to move up to 1st overall and take Bridgewater.

Re: NFLILF Fantasy Football 2013 Edition
As I said, I completely understand the move purely as a football move. I also, the more I've thought about it, appreciate the value of it.
As a fan, it's dogshit. It's an insulting PR move by a front office that's already been spotty, one that talks down to the fans, and entered the season on a "yeah ra ra let's fucking win some football games" approach, effectively giving up on the season after two games. It's a slap in the face.
Furthermore, it's jumping the gun a bit that SHOULD Bridgewater come out this year, and the Browns aren't picking first, the team picking first will jump at the chance to take our package of picks over the QB. It's part of the reason I'm skeptical.
