old wii game recommendations?

Post by space6oy »

i took the wii i never use to leave it at my parents' where i'm living for a while. girl i'm kinda sorta dating is totally into gaming & is coming over for a few too. only game i've had & loved so far has been sims castaway. i'm more of an xbox RPG type, worship stuff like elder scrolls, fallout, assassin's creed, red dead redemption... picked up a few games today w/ a gamestop chick making suggestions, disappointed in the first few i've tried today, still have indiana jones & the staff of kings & the house of the dead overkill to try. need to pick up some classic pro controllers for good ol' goldeneye since it fucking blows trying to get around using the remote & nunchuck.

anywho... any of you game nerds have any recommendations, please throw 'em at me. hoping to find some two players, but singles are fine too.

Warioware Moves, Smash Bros Brawl, Buck Hunter Pro, Mario Party, Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart....with all that, you'll probably get tired of playing games.

Muramasa: the demon blade should be the first game you look for. It does not dissappoint. Music and scenery are the best.
The Last Story is an excellent jrpg created by the guy who made the final fantasy series.
House of the Dead games are excellent arcade rail shooters that work well with the wiimote.
Warioware Smooth Moves is super fun and quirky.
Okami for its beautiful scenery and game play.
Mario Galaxy 2 is better than 1.
Smash Brothers Brawl is only fun with multiplayer IMO.
Elebits is fun and unique and can be had for like $5 used at gamestop.
Xenoblade is great if you can find it for less than $80.

Ill see what else I have when I get home and add to this list.

I wasnt to fond of either twilight princess or skyward sword.

Also consider:
Super paper mario. Great rpg/platformer. Switch between 2d and 3d. Funny dialog.
Resident Evil 4 for wii is sooooooo good. I played it twice through. Might even play it again since its been 3 years since.

Now I wanna play my wii...gotta finish Fallout 3....again.

If its an older backwards compatible wii (white one) go get chibirobo on gamecube. One of my favorite games ever. Youll need a gamecube controller.

i didn't care for smash bros. also i'm totally against hunting. even in video games. kart is alright but i wasn't crazy about it...

i just popped in house of the dead: overkill and am already in love with it, even if i don't dig the game the opening comments are hilarious!
the gamestop i hit has a copy of xenoblade for $72. the girl who was helping me recommended it and told me its story. i just cringed at shelling out that much... after coming home & reading more about it though i totally want it now...

i have twilight princess too, bought that for my sis ages ago & forgot about it... my wii's one of the very first batch, at least here in the states. i'm one of those dorks that was calling daily & rushing to grab one. played a few games then went back to my other systems & left it sitting there...

i've surprisingly never played a resident evil... been through fallout 3 three times though. definitely one of my favorites.

i'm heading back to gamestop to return kirby 20th anniversary. it was awesome back in the day but i'm too jaded by the evolution of games to be into it at all now. plus i need different controllers. the rerelease of goldeneye blows w/ the remote & nunchuck.

thanks for chiming in dudes!

Keep in mind the various catalog extensions you have. Wii is backward compatible to GameCube discs and the Virtual Console games have adapted a lot of the old catalog. For me mainly single-player.

I agree generally with Zelda. Pretty much all of them are on Virtual Console, including Majora's Mask, my fave of the franchise.

Metroid is another big franchise for Nintendo, and the "Prime" trilogy starting on GC and running to Wii being very good, or the older stuff if you like 2d side-scrolling.

If you can lay hands on the GC disc for Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, I think it still holds up pretty well. Sequel chatter (mainly wishful thinking) has kept up for over a decade, which may give some indication.

I think Super Mario Galaxy has a low-key 2P mode. Super inventive game design with 3d space and gravity, but it gives me the dizzies sometime. (Not like Portal does, but still not that pleasant sometimes.)

If you you haven't played any resident evil game I suggest starting with the first. It's totally a one-player game only, but because of the game-play it's like watching/being in a scary movie. So, it's crazy fun to play with a group of people, and if the person not playing looks through some kind of walk-through guide you won't get tripped up by the oddly difficult puzzles.

A man after my own heart. Majora's Mask is my favorite game ever. That game is so beautiful in its storytelling and emotionally powerful.
