Belle Epoch delay is out from Catbread, damn Ron is feeding my delay lust today. But i held off as its $200 wait for the eventual TGP re-sale.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
This is my viewpoint, too. I was really interested in a Doomsayer, but I wanted to tweak it to make it a little less... extreme, but in the end it felt wrong to try and change what he had going on. His fills a niche market and there are plenty of other luthiers out there who could build exactly what I want.misterstomach wrote:just checked the monson sight. will has both number one and number three. or at least used to unless he sold one, which seems incredibly unlikely.
i think the doomsayer and the redemption are two of his coolest designs. i've really struggled with the idea of getting in touch with him for a guitar. i've had the pleasure of playing a couple of them and they're amazing. he seems like a cool guy too. my hesitation is that i think his designs may just be too out there for me. i really like classic shapes and have never been much of a pointy guitar guy. he won't copy other guitar shapes and pointy is really his specialty. it almost seems like it would be a bit weird, or the wrong fit to get in touch with him and try and get him to make a more conventional shape. i do think some of his guitars look cool, and i like pointy guitars on other people, it's just hard to see myself playing one.
That actually sounds great. I had kinda heard that Alumitone pickups were a little... harsh and sterile sounding, like maybe they were TOO flat, but I dig your description of them. I've always thought Lace pickups looked the shit.deathmonkey wrote:I run Lace Alumitones in Red.
the Bridge is actually the "deathbucker" higher output pickup and the bridge is their normal humbucker version. I have them wired to the faux-slit coil thing with a push-pull pot. They aren't quite split coiling, the website sort of describes it, but i sort of just skimmed over it.
Any way, What i can say about these pickups:
I personally love them, and I think I've sung their praises previously. I don't know that they would be for everyone. They have a very Flat EQ response. I personally love this, because they don;t color the sound too much. I have bareknuckle nailbombs in another guitar, and personally, I like the Lace pickups even more. The BKPs were dark and I constantly had to try to overcome this with the EQ on my pedals and amp.
With the alumitones, the whole "your guitar sounds like your guitar" thing is present. It made me more pleased with the ability to dial in a sound i liked. They seem to make every EQ on every pedal more responsive because they do so little coloring of their own.
My two cents.
So I'm having mega-GAS for a semi-hollow body guitar. Fuck, this is a whole new world of guitars. I definitely could use one though. It would be perfect for the shows and performances I'm doing at the moment.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
so, thinking of trimming down my guitars...i have a Epi LP (old Korean one) and an Epi V (Jeff Waters)...I also have a Gibbi SG with P90's which i'm not selling.
but thinking of getting down to 2 guitars only...so either sell 1, or sell both and buy 1.
If I sell the V or the LP, which ever one remains i would have to spend some of the money on pickups for the one i keep. Neither one sounds the way i want them to.
Or, i can sell both and get a second hand guitar with good pickups. Something like a ESP LTD, or Schecter, or Ibanez...
any advice? usually my wife is quite good at making at helping, but she's stumped on this as well!

Sell both and buy a cheap Japanese guitar like an Ibanez, ESP, Edwards, or Tokai, etc.

I love me some Electro-Pop/Southern Hip-Hop. Great music there.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
When I emailed Brent about combining the Redemption and the Doomsayer I asked if he could make the lower bout a little less pointy and he said it would be no problem. He seems really into working with you on getting exactly what you want. I'm not really a fan of super pointed guitars either. Might not hurt to ask him.
Also, Goldfish has some really solid advice. My Orville LP Custom is built better than any Gibson that has come out in the past few years and cost 4 times less that a new one. Can't go wrong with those older Japanese guitars. I want an Edwards Explorer one day.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Finally chilled out for a minute with my BAT Pharaoh last night, dimed fuzz and volume, but on my guit took volume down to about 2.
Man am I glad that took place, was getting some very David Gilmour esque tones out of it...almost don't even want to use a clean channel anymore...

Im snagging a Coven now so I can get another pharaoh and BF to rock in 1 enclosure. a new pharaoh so it will contrast against my OG pharaoh.ridingeternity wrote:Finally chilled out for a minute with my BAT Pharaoh last night, dimed fuzz and volume, but on my guit took volume down to about 2.

I would have no problems running all BAT for dirt, they are so receptive to subtle changes in the guitar and amp controls.new05002 wrote:yea pharaoh is a kool pedal alright. I'd even love 2 pharaohs! Run one on a bassier rig with open clip, one on a bitier high end rig with silicone clipped.
