Kittens and amps are all that matter and dogs and doom and money and women and...

Either way I think I'll pass on the reeve as I can just get a cheap beat up sound city and rework it into a hiwatt.
Especially since I'm now on the list for my own dunwich custom!

No its okay, Reeves makes hiwatt grade amps, similar units but a few more unique things from my glancing on the website overtime. Nice stuff. Hi-Tone is Mark Huss the guy who archived a lot of Hiwatt info on the web (mhuss.com)

The current Hiwatt company was bought a few times. They do make hiwatt circuits but they dont even approach the Hiwatt grade of amp

My HiWatt may not be full on HiWatt quality and build, but damn does it sound good. Definitely a unique voice that contrasts my other amps in a great way.

Speaking of custom stuff... I think I just started down the rabbit hole. I emailed Monson about doing a custom guitar. Pretty excited about it. I've been emailing him about different woods. I love walnut, but I'm not sure how it will sound, especially compared to maple / mahogany. I know some of you guys have Monson guitars. What are yours made of? I'm also unsure about pickup choices. I really love how the Duncan Distortion sounds in my LP but now I have the option for a Warpig or some Lace pickups so I'm not sure what to go with. The only thing I am sure about is that I want a bolt on neck, and a single bridge pickup with only a volume and a 3 way switch wired up to be hum single - kill switch. I rarely use the neck pickup.

Go for it, walnut is awesome, and you can always tailor the sound to your liking with new pups.
I make guitars and stuff, check it out at...

Maybe my Fryette is an exclusion to the rule, then. You are directed via the manual to use the high input for higher output pickups and the low input for low output pickups because it boosts the signal to match that of a higher output guitar.

This is what i do. I like them dirty cleans though.

EDIT:

I just had a guy email me a copy of our song that is up on bandcamp with a synth track mixed in with it asking if he could start playing with us. I like it. We have been talking about bringing in someone to run synth / samples for a bit.
DO IT!!

Link to Minsk? I'm not familiar with them/that. MOAR AWESOMENESS! NAOW!
You don't know Minsk? :wha?: One of my favourite metal bands. I was gutted when they broke up. I had only been listening to them for a few months and was stoked to see them come to Ireland, then BAM! they broke up. It's awesome to know they've got back together though.

This.

I am always interested to see what gear people use, but most of the time it's nothing special. Big bands aren't using the same weird shit that we would use. The fact that Josh and Troy use Fuzzrocious is actually kinda weird. I imagine they were sent them by the builder and the lads liked them a bunch and stuck with them. Big bands use big name products because if something breaks down and they're in New Deli then they can find it easily. If a Dr. Scientist Elements is your core sound and it breaks down, you're pretty much fucked for at least a week.

Isn't (wasn't) there another boutique that built Hiwatt-inspired clones? I'm trying to think of the name. I saw one at the Matamp factory. I think Jeff said they built a few of them from commission.

Yeah, Bill is the owner of Reeves amps, but I think he just started as an enthusiast.

Definitely go Bare Knuckle. They are a step above every Duncan I've ever tried.

So the newest aquisition is a Sunn beta 205 2x15. It;s nice, loud and clear tones that dont color the amps much.
The jacks on the back indicate it was wired for an input, then extension outs for either series or parallel. A previous owner cut the wires to these.
I;m pretty sure at least one of you has one and I was wondering if you could unscrew the jack plate and snap a pic or two of the wiring scheme. I'm sure I could work it out but I'd be more comfy just copying how its supposed to be. I'm one of those guys who has a mental block when it comes to series para wiring. such a simple thing but I always get it backwards and have to check my work.
A quick google search revealed zero info on the cabs wiring schematics.

I've been working on this song for a long time. Large chunks are improvised and our cello player was missing (our violinist switches to bass about half-way through). I just can't seem to feel satisfied with finishing it. Some of the parts needs to be a bit more spiced up, the heavy part in the middle needs more stoner hands of doom. Anybody willing to offer some constructive feedback? It was just recorded with a cheap iPhone accessory mic and it was probably too close to the drums.
0030 in, I'm digging it, turning it up, kind of western movie feel, like the soundtrack for "once upon a time in the west"
02:58, I'm thinking "holy shit, Ipod accessory? Could use more low end but fuck, that's pretty good.
05:02, I'm thinking it would be cool if the drums started to have a cohesive beat while everything else remains chaos
about 06:00 this happens, but slower than I would like, a more pounding aggressive beat would be a nice counterpoint, but that's to my taste.
08:30, very ominous feel, I dig.
09:30, riff starts to happen, could use more definition, but that may be the mic? I like how it fades in to become more cohesive as it goes.
11:20 I am composing a lead (ish) bit in my head to go with it, slow bending notes with wah or phaser, not sure which I would use, but it could fit there.
12:40 deserves extreme low frequency note of death before the softer part.
14:15 I remember I am trying to write you a critique, I write more, to tell you I like this part. Part should be longer before next part
1645, fuck yah the bass line
20:50 too much cymbals and not enough toms stops, could be just my perception and the mic, but I like to hear a pounding drum.
22:12 ends, one more than Rush's best work. Nice. I now listen again without worrying about thinking and giving impressions. I really enjoyed this.

Fucking well done man. I tried to be as critical as possible but found myself zoning out to it a lot, which is what happens when I listen to good music of this ilk.
:doom:
Thanks a lot. Some similar comments I've had for the other guys but some things I wasn't thinking about that I think could work. I've been trying to do more analytical reviews of the jams we've had but at the same time leaving things a bit open. There are a few set parts but most of the comments we have to each other are things like "we should make this more dramatic or this should be light and melancholy" rather than a note-by-note sort of thing and it's getting better. This week we should have our cello back and I still would like to put my Moog SubPhatty in there somewhere. There's even a friend of a friend horn player that I'd like to experiment with brining in.
