So I found this amp the other day that I thought looked cool. It sparked the idea of switching from a Tolex Dunwich amp to a painted one. What do you folks think? Black or red tolex, or stained?

I love that. I would got stained over tolex. I get the tolex thing about protecting etc and the stained one would show the wear of touring, but to me thats actually cool. As far as colours go, red would be awesome

That red stain looks pretty good actually. Normally I like the browns and ebony stains better but that red is nice. I just tolexed my head and it actually was much easier to do then I expected. So I guess you could go for the stain and if it gets too banged up you could tolex it then. I remember seeing a pic of high on fire's emperors and they were totally torn to shit. I mean it fits with the band but they had seen war.

The first band I saw playing out of emperors was Coliseum and Young widows back in like 2007. It was the first wood stained cabs I had ever seen and I was hooked. Tolex for me is just unnecessary and always gets super dirty looking. Even when cabs get some dings, you can still clean them up. I have my verellen head, and ripped the carpet off of my red bear. I only have one thing with Tolex on it currently, and that is only because I haven;t had the energy to strip and stain a whole cab. I think they look classier. Want them to stay clean of dings? Get someone to build a road case for them.

You can see my road cases here. Both built by emperor, about 2-300 to build and get shipped to me. They work perfectly for me, and the heads stay fresh and clean since they only come out to play.

Does anyone happen to know if anyone makes just the ring mod side of the Moog Ring Mod? I like the effect, but I don't really need an LFO on it. Plus the non-bypass is weird and the pedal is a little too big for my board...

I really dig stained, I know its going to get messed up, but so is tolex and I think beat up wood finishes look cool.

To be honest, I doubt this amp will receive much abuse, even though I'm sure every musician says this before a purchase. It won't be out every weekend being kicked around. I'll be babying it, at home and out and about. I even plan to install a GPS tracker on it in case someone decides to run off with it.

You mean just a standard ring modulator? I have two ring modulators, the Iron Ether FrantaBit—which is also a bit crusher—and the Fairfield Circuitry Randy's Revenge. The Fairfield is excellent. It's the best ring modulator I've ever played. It's small, easy to use, and sounds great in every setting. Everything about it is perfect. If you want something smaller, Subdecay are releasing a ring modulator soon that can also function as a synthesizer. It's supposed to be a more musical variety of ring modulation.

I won't be getting a case for it, but I will be looking after the amp. I'm still really undecided.

Most of the regular ring mods I've tried don't drop low enough in pitch to do that tremolo/pseudo vibe sound. And unfortunately the RR is WAY out of my price range. I might still get a Frantabit as I LOVE my Xerograph.

The FrantaBit can do one speed of tremolo, but that's it. No vibe. The Randy's Revenge is an excellent tremolo. It's more like the tremolo/vibe setting on the Strymon Flint. It can go pretty damn slow and pretty damn fast.

Ghost disaster rules. I got the SR. It would be nice to have the tone knob on there instead of the modulation though. I feel like the mod is too wiggly for my taste. sweet pedals though.

IM like 2 pedals away from finishing my board. I wanna get an eqd depths and a whammy V for dimebag noises lol. then im all filled up, unless I kick my channel switcher off the board then ill have room for something else. BUT then ill need to buy another pedal power...

Yeah, we are trying to expand on that with this band. Matt, the other guitarist is an amazing artist and is doing a bunch of stuff to go along with our music. He sold a bunch of different prints at our show. We also want to to an art show where everything ties in with our lyrics. Big plans, especially for a small new band but I think we can pull it off. Hopefully we can try to kick start that in other bands around our area too. Seems like they all subscribe to the sharpie on a Maxwell thing.

I love shit like that. I say go for it - either people will get it and follow suit, or they won't. Either way, you are doing something progressive that makes the whole thing a more gratifying experience for you guys, which is always a good thing.

As far as beers go...i recently tried out Blue Moon - which i think is from san francisco...that i now my beer of choice. Also if you find it, a slice of orange with it really adds to the flavour...or just straight, taste good either way.

If you like blue moon, then you should like any hefenweizen style beer

anyone use a super ego? my buddy has one and I like it but I dont know if I should bother getting one or not. Its cool, but I feel like id just noodle on it for hours and not really make substance out of it.

I think it's an awesome idea for a pedal. I reckon those noodling times will eventually transform into creative times. Noodling is another word for learning. That's how I learned to play the guitar.
