Remember reading a similar interview a while back... does Billy not use a Big Muff anymore?

In a "ask a pumpkin" youtube interview, someone asked about his gear. He said for the Zeitgeist tour they just picked up a bunch of pedals in Germany and he didn't really know. There have been pics of his rack/pedals. I remember a OCD/Hotcake pedal. Forgot what he had for fuzz.

Interesting,
I hadn't heard that other band Catherine before, most enjoyable, that John Belushi look included :stitch: .

As I recall, when time came to play the "Siamese Dream" stuff live, Billy couldn't quite get it right using the Big Muff live. He claimed that it lacked definition in a live setting. That was when he started using the rack setup for touring, and also used that for much of the recording of Mellon Collie.

That said, I'd love to know what exact model Muff that is, just looks like the vintage "NYC" version (aka the V3 model) or even an "Op-Amp" version (pre tone-bypass).

I suppose this might be if interest at this point:

Quite a detailed piece in there about the gear used on various Pumpkins recordings.
People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey... stuff.

That was an awful lot to read through, I'm still not sure what Fuzz he use on Melancholy onwards. A lot of it was just the JMP preamp I guess. Those JMPs have quite a fuzzy voicing.

As Roseweave said, different preamp.

Gish tone = ADA MP-1 preamp + Marshall JCM800 2203 (fitted with KT88 tubes, aka the"SOUL" amp)

I love how Billy seems to be talking a lot about the "Classic" Pumpkisn tones now. For a while he was quite secretive about his stuff, or more than he used to be.
