how in the f@%k do you win an ebay auction?
i figured if i bid on all of the same thing
ill eventually win one of them
not the case
everything gets bought
for a dollar more than my max bid
that makes me a chump, correct?

help me
everyone else is getting $46 small stones
and i want one
teach me how to snipe
sharpen my online auction talons
and if i win ill make the worst phaser demo vid ever

dude last minute bidding is so good on iPad/iPod/iPhone. Easiest way to snipe bids.
Set reminder for like 2 minutes before auction ends. Go to eBay app, go to ending soon or whatever. Open up auction. Place bid your final/max bid with like 20 seconds to go. I haven't lost an auction that I've really cared about since the eBay app came out.

20 seconds is wayyyy too early.
I go in at 5 or 6.
And sometimes someone still snipes me.

problem is ive been trying to be the first bidder
so im bidding with six days left
feels nice to be high bidderfor a week
sucks to lose it last second
first bidder strategy DOES NOT WORK

when shniping:
do you put in only as much as you wanna pay
or do you go higher hoping youll just go over
the high bid by a dollar

its at $45.24
lets say you wouldnt pay more than $75 for the item
at the last second what bid would you enter?

Nope. Also drives up the price.
Even if there's no bids on it, wait til the last second.
I've seen stuff end with no bids, then when it's relisted,
someone bids early and it ends up selling for substantially
more than it had just not sold for.
So bidding early also means anyone else who was interested is going to end up bidding.

look for bids ending at strange times (although that may be different 'over there' with your broad range of time zones), and in the wrong category as well as the spellings

also if there are a few with bids ending at near to the same time, the first ones usually go for less
and things with higher starting bids often go for less, as the vultures crowd around the ones that start at $1

also, if its something that you really want, just pay a bit more and get it

futuresailors is right, yo. It's stupid to get into an unnecessary bidding war, no need to let anybody know you're also watching it. Let them feel confident that they're the highest bidder, then pull the rug out from beneath them. EBAY IS BRUTAL.
Just wait until the last possible second and bid as much as you're ever going to be willing to spend on it. That way, if your bid is still lower than the current highest, it'll automatically go higher than theirs until you get it.
Make sure you're already logged in too

Also I bid at the last second, the most that I'll offer for whatever it is. And if I don't end up winning I just sulk for about an hour and then I'm good.

Yeah, even if it has 0 bids just wait. Someone else might also be checking it out, but maybe they're waiting until the last day and then they're gonna bid right before they go to work or something. Then you just come by and swipe it from them at the last possible second lololololol
And always bid the max you're willing to pay for it. Your max bid and their max bid will fight each other until whoever's max is higher wins, but usually if they think they're the only one looking at it, they're not gonna bid super high.

Try not to even look at it more than once if there is a counter at the bottom. If an item has a ton of views then you can expect a lot of people to bid on it.
