Tubescreamer to Bassman dimed to Marshall 4x12 w/ G12H30 and/or G12M25 = Amazing. Just wear some ear plugs or take like 10 steps back.

Wish I could say I'm a Tube Screamer fan (or at least I didn't like the TS-9 I had much). That said, I do have a Boss SD-1 I'll probably use just for boosting the amp a bit.
Got recommended a Traynor 2x12 by a couple people now, and one review on the Long & McQuade site was saying it complemented their blackface Bassman perfectly.

I'm told an SD-1 is basically a Tubescreamer with asymmetrical clipping. I boosted mine with an OD-3 which was pretty great, too.patrick wrote:Wish I could say I'm a Tube Screamer fan (or at least I didn't like the TS-9 I had much). I remember reading about how Ibanez started using symmetrical clipping because Boss trademarked the asymmetrical clipping, yeah. That said, I found that having the tone at 12:00 on the SD-1 didn't EQ much. That same position on the TS-9 EQ'd way too much/I don't like mids much.

Retube and reset the bias? Through a tech or by himself? It's not a good idea to just swap tubes in and out on amps that aren't self-biasing.. If he biases the new tubes too hot, they could burn out faster. Too cold, and the amp could sound not-as-great.patrick wrote:Well, the guy offered to retube it as well for that price, so that seems fair.
Either way, was thinking about 15s too, interesting those got brought up
$600 is pretty reasonable if the amp is in really great condition. I would offer less though, if he isn't going to have the amp serviced before selling.

He originally had it up for $700, but offered to retube it and set the bias and let it go for $600.veteransdaypoppy wrote:Retube and reset the bias? Through a tech or by himself? Guy wouldn't budge on the price, ended up with some extra cash, got a Music Man HD130 instead. Worth it.
