That second track by white orange is much more stoner rock. Sounds like queens of the stone age a bit.
If you guys like them Earthless just posted a new track for an upcoming album on pitchfork

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
I only found the one copy on ebay. I can't find any stock for my distro anywhere. Both of those bands were bands that I looked up to back when I first got into underground music. I never got to see either one live thoughAncient Astronaught wrote:Yes they are!!! It was awesome to be able to attend their reunion show two years ago, never thought that would happen. And I'll def be hitting you up for more vinyl!!! Hey on that Pg.99 / Maj Rule split did you get more then one copy by any chance?!?!? I was just thinking about Majority Rule the other day as I found the case for my "interviews with david frost" cd but I couldn't find the CDconky wrote:Pg.99 are fucking amazing. I still have to pick up some vinyl from Serial Hawk. I pretty much have their promo cd of the same album on constant rotation in my truck. If you are looking for any particular records let me know and I can possibly pick them up cheaper than you can find them. I've got distro deals with Deathwish and Halo of Flies so sometimes I can get vinyl for pretty cheap. I scored some sweet vinyl on ebay yesterday, Got a nice haul of Amen Ra, Pale Creation, Pg 99 / Majority Rule split, and Corn on Macabre discography coming as well as 3 Neurosis posters from way back in the day advertising for Through Silver in Blood. Can't wait for it all to come in.They were fucking AMAZING live, one of the most talented bands in this area at that time. I sooooo wish they would reunite, as apparently alot of people do. If you never got to see them they were sooo much heavier and trippier live then on CD. Guh, the mammories....
P.S. - I really really want your SG..... I hate being broke....![]()

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
I might pick up one of those miniature Yamaha THR amps. They sound excellent and are so fucking cute! They're a kind of cross between classiness and cute, like a baby wearing a monocle and bow tie.
It would be a great jamming and practise tool. I doubt any of the versions have a decent Sludge tone, but they'd be great to play along to Russian Circles with the auxiliary mp3 player input with the Fender or Vox tones. The fact that it has acoustic and bass simulations is excellent as well. And of course the USB recording could be an undeniably useful tool.
My smallsound/bigsound Sparkle Motion, a similar type of pedal to the Naga Viper, can do a low gain boost. It's quieter than a dedicated clean boost, but running the output at around 2 o'clock is a slight boost with a only a teeny bit of hair. You have to make sure you set the bias and the EQ in the right place though.samzadgan wrote:White Orange sound pretty good...i'll have to listen to a bit of their stuff.
Darren, that Garnet amp seems like a killer amp. I'm interested in that Naga Vyper...i've listened to a few demo's of it and it does sound really good. I was thinking of using it as a buffer/boost, but on cleans it dirties things up right? you cant get super clean with it can you?

THe THR amps are awesome man...i messed around with one for a good few hours (the original, not the metal version) and its excellent. I actually tried to get a sludgy tone and kinda got there. I put it on the british amp and dimed the gain, and all the EQ and it got close enough for what it is.AngryGoldfish wrote:I might pick up one of those miniature Yamaha THR amps. on the treble booster thing...I'll tell you what the problem is...now that there is another guitarist in the band, I'm getting lost in the mix, because i have too much bottom end and i have EQ'ing my pedals and also on the amp rolling back the bass, but it just seems like i have no pop. I put my SLOstortion boost side on the whole time and that's added a bit highs to my signal so its improved slightly. But I'm just not getting much clarity and still a little drowned out. I've been toying with either a treble booster, or a buffer pedal at the beginning of the chain.

Ahhhh gotcha, if I had the scratch I'd pick it up in a heartbeat but alas I'm having to sell gear just to pay the bills at the moment until the wifey can get back to work.

I'm assuming you're using the Ironheart in this scenario; if it's anything like my AOR, this is what I would suggest: Try using a hair or 2 less on the preamp gain and trade that out for a hair or 3 more on the MV. Then, give the mids a bit of a bump and play around with the presence control. I found in jamming situations at high volumes, that I got lost with my bassist because I had the lowend boosted to hell and we were fighting for many of the same frequencies. When we rip out both guitars, we have to adjust so we're not fighting for the same midrange frequency (as I have an AOR and he has a Pro Tube). I don't mean to sound condescending or anything of the sort because that's how I feel like this post sounds, I just found with my AOR that too much gain gets mushy and feedbacky, cool by myself but it gets lost in a mix when I turn down or otherwise it drowns everything else out. I find that a little drive in the power section gets me this nice defined metallic chug (like two fighter jets crashing together and ripping each other to shreds), whereas more preamp distortion wins out in low end thump but loses a bit of dynamics.samzadgan wrote:on the treble booster thing...I'll tell you what the problem is...now that there is another guitarist in the band, I'm getting lost in the mix, because i have too much bottom end and i have EQ'ing my pedals and also on the amp rolling back the bass, but it just seems like i have no pop. I'd be afraid of losing the lowend you already have with a regular treble booster, but I would imagine the Naga would be nice because you can dial in the right amount of low end. I'd lean against buying one as a problem solver, unless you just want a treble booster in which case
I should be getting a Naga clone pretty soon, I'll keep you posted on how my rig responds to it.
I guess I really need to go see them now. I missed them playing in Birmingham last year :/Harry_Manback wrote:So I had an epiphany last night, the Melvins>every other band

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
The smallsound/bigsound Sparkle Motion is effective at adding cut if you're either missing out on high-end and have an obtrusive low-end, or if you need a honky midrange bark.
Good post above.

unfortunately i don't use my amp at rehearsals...the rehearsal rooms we rent have Orange Rockaverb 100s...and although i would like to take my amp, without a car and being in central london its almost impossible. But if i could, i don't think i would have a problem, because with Ironheart, i would its own gain, and like you say drop it back a bit and engage the boost which would allow me to cut through quite nicely.
I don't mind the orange amps at rehearsals as a clean platform for my pedals, and i use my Pharaoh pedal with the gain at about 75%...someone else said i needed a buffer because i have too much cable and pedals which are all true bypass...but i have a comp which is always on, and then he said that i don't need a buffer.
i'd be keen on your experience with the Naga clone though.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
So you guys both use Rockerverbs at practice then? Same cabinets and everything? I suppose that matters a lot less if you're running the amp clean with the Pharaoh for dirt... I didn't find the Pharaoh had very much cut when engaged. It provided a significant volume boost, but it was primarily in the mids and lowend. I'd try compensating by giving a small boost the mids and a larger one to the treble. Can't speak for the RV100s the only experience I've got is with the 50W mkII combo, and I didn't play it extensively, or very loud for that matter.samzadgan wrote:thanks for the reply man.
