Metallica was my favorite band when I was a kid in the early to mid 90's. Then I got the opportunity to go to a Metallica show. It was the tour in support of Load. I was really really disappointed with their performance.

All the songs I wanted to here off of Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning were medley-ed into one underwhelming piece of shit. Then when "stage hands" started falling out of the rigging and all the lights come crashing to the stage and they encored with dummy combo amps like they soldiered on as some sort of garage band???

I was pissed. What happened to warts and all, no theatrics,...just on stage rocking the fuck out. I wrote my favorite band off after that.

I had the exact same experience, saw them at the Cow Palace in SF on that tour and felt those same feels

i loved them 'cause of Cliffie and y'know.... they were from my hood. you kinda HAD to.

saw them with Faith No More opening for them out here and...... um. got a lifelong love for FNM out of it. they fucking SLEW.

this was during the And Justice For All tour? so before they got super cheesy. but they were....... a'ight. sucked for them to have someone so much better open for them.

Oh man, that's a good one. You're right, I vaguely remember them being like an indie-ish rock band back when I was in college, now they're making some of the most horrendously awful corporate teeny-bopper bullshit I've ever heard.
