I can vouch for the Peavey S260 head. Had one for a long time. They're built like a tank and sound good at high and low volumes.
If you can snag one cheap, I'd hit it. Only downside is that they're pretty large...

Yah, I want something that is a big, old, beat, and ugly. No one would want it or suspect it of having value. I'd love to take my 1968 Fender Bandmaster with me, I really would. But it's irreplaceable, so I'm going to leave it. I'd love to take the 2x15 as well, but I just need an "at-home" rig. Gig-rig, if it happens, can be purchased.

In response to Theavondon, I'll only be in Phoenix for seven months and I'm driving from Chicago, I'd never get all of my stuff in my car. Even if I rented a truck or trailer (which I can't afford) I'll be moving to some place else, right now New York is what's next; it's prohibitive for me to lug around all of my stuff until I'm settled someplace.

I think I'll go with the Peavey then, the old Kustom for whatever reason is appealing to me. But I know peavey quality and it fucking rules. I have a Peavey T-15 and one of their 2x15 cabs, both are awesome.

As far as bass goes, I know a number of people who have Acoustic brand bass amps, and they are really nice (as well as their guitar amps) but I like the ampeg sound more. I'm going to wait until I get to Phoenix to buy a bass amp.

I missed out on both of the amps I was considering. Can anyone help me out?

If you're not playing loud / with amp distortion, just get a bass combo for both guitar and bass and use a pedal as a pre-amp if you need to (mini or fuck does nicely). I did this while I was at college at it worked beautifully.

Living in a dorm, I had a Vox AD50VT and then a Vox AC15. I'd play quiet and during the day. We had a slightly insulated music room in the basement w/ a piano that we'd occasionally play in. It was a pain to drag my amp down there. It was good when I was jamming with a good friend (bassist) that I knew and a singer-guitarist I knew. but I'd play in my room quite often by myself and played my acoustic singing terrible songs I wrote, some of which were about girls who lived on down the hall.

The first line was "She don't ever comb her neon colored hair."

The main line was, "and it's sexy, it's goddamn sexy."

Matter of fact, I should dig that stuff up. I actually wrote some great stuff in that dorm year.

^or this, especially if it comes with output for a headset so You can play when the other guys sleep.

I'd also consider not moving in anywhere where I'd have to fear my gear is stolen.

There's a used Acoustic B200 at the Phoenix GC for $149.

I should also note that this was when I was first getting into Sonic Youth and the joys of feedback.

All good to know. It looks like that B200 is gone already, bummer. On the other hand the kustom hadn't actually been sold and the guy I talked to today said it sounds great and that he's a Kustom geek, so he gave me the deets. I ordered that and should have it by this coming Wednesday or Thursday. As for Bass stuff I'll see what's available at the time.

I hope to be able to play loudly sometimes or at least occasionally, I'm going to school for Audio Engineering so I'll be doing a ton of home recordings. The building I'm staying in also has a patio with grills, so if I could play outside at louder volumes that could be okay too.

I don't count on my stuff being stolen, the school works in conjunction with the apartment landlord so the place is safe, but I'd rather be safe than sorry considering I can't replace some of the stuff I own.
