Improper grid leaks for 6550s but the voltage is fine. Likely wont see much difference using them if the amp was designed to handle El34s only. May need to adjust bias supply to allow for larger negative grid bias. Might work but not optimum.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Gotcha, I do really like the combo of kt88's and el34's though. The way they break up is so different but complement each other so well. Running the peavey as a slave of the Naki's thourgh the FX loop return so it goes right into the power section yields a very different tone, more sizzle and crunch but it lacks the billowing low end and super smooth mids of the kt88's. but together =new05002 wrote:Improper grid leaks for 6550s but the voltage is fine. Looks a fair bit simpler than when I saw them last. That Rocktron Hush is a staple of both his and JD's boards and never comes off. He had a phaser and an Iron Horse too the last time I saw them.AxAxSxS wrote:Kyle Shutt's setup from last night.

That little blue thing? I thought it was an MXR chorus or something...Ancient Astronaught wrote:Is that a siamese blue beard I see?

No the stop sign shaped pedal with 5 knobs. That's the same enclosure Sonny uses for the siamese bluebeard. The blue pedal I'm fairly certain is an MXR chorus as you claim.

But seriously I'm so stoked that you're digging it! It's slightly unusual so I always wonder how the folks who are stuck buying without first trying are going to receive it. Again, I'm so excited to have contributed to your riffingz :0)

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
I really would love to have Nick build me an Iron Lung still. It was and still is my dream amp. We'll see how things get on with this combo. Maybe I'll hop right back on that waiting list. Who knows.Ancient Astronaught wrote:That would be one hell of a sick rig.....AngryGoldfish wrote:If I was playing the music I really wanted in a three-piece band on stage, I'd be rocking a Fryette Deliverance 120, two Fryette 4x12's, and a Matamp GT1 or a Super Bass with two 2x15 cabinets. That's the dream. And then if I could only bring one amp I'd bring a my original idea of the Dunwich Iron Lung. But that's OTT at home. A small rig is all you need.![]()
You still need to have the Iron Lung built one of these days, the power amp section scheme is the stuff of legends if I remember correctly.
On an unrelated note, I've been playing quite a bit of guitar...unplugged. Yep, I have been playing my standard tuning Stratocaster and learning old songs again. I'm also trying to get back into singing. So far I've almost mastered these awesome tunes (no Doom involved):
I And Love And You - The Avett Brothers
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
Man on the Moon - R.E.M.
Rags to Rags - Eels
All I Want Is You - Barry Louis Polisar (Juno soundtrack)
Redemption Song - Bob Marley
Where Is My Mind - Pixies
I'm also trying to learn a few other songs, but the vocal range is way too high for me. I'm always trying to push myself, but sometimes it comes across as forced. Singing that high isn't natural for me.
The Funeral - Band of Horses
The Scientist - Coldplay
Why Does it Always Rain on Me? - Travis
Oh, Comely - Neutral Milk Hotel
