That's a good comparison. Except Asimov has some interesting concepts; I made it 4 pages into the first ASOIaF book and put it down.

I do find it amusing that George's assistant (co)wrote Leviathan Wakes though. Like bro, take some tips from the help.

Depends on what you're looking for when you talk about good writing.

Post-Modernist Meta-trip it ain't, but that's a horse of a different colour.

Just finished Jack London's Sea Wolf for like the fourth time..... Every time I see something about the musician using that name, I get pissed off. If you've read the book, maybe you'll understand.

About half way through The Power of Myth and part way through another of Campbell's books from the "Masks of God" series, the one on Primitive Mythology. I picked up a cool looking book on Navajo Witchcraft written in the 40's. I hope it's pretty legit. Also picked of Ovid's "Metamorphoses." That one will test me for sure, but I've wanted to read that kind of stuff for a long time.

Dune is possibly my favourite book series, love those books. I keep thinking about trying out the extra ones written after Frank Herbert died but I'm wary and it seems wrong somehow, like the books should have ended with the death of the author.

i'm reading the Divergent series right now. which is.... frustrating. mebbe 3/4 of it's decently written but really engrossing, then the other quarter is like poorly written Hunger Games fanfic.

i'm slowly getting started on Q by Luther Blissett, who is actually, like, four different ghost writers. Umberto Eco got me into medieval conspiracies. Foucault's Pendulum was fantastic.

i waited a good 10 years (up until last year) to start the stuff by his son and kevin j anderson. anderson a decent author so i feel like he helps his son write more like his father. the first three were alright (machine jihad stuff) the last three finished up the series alright. i kind wish herbert was able to finish it up. i will say this, duncan is given a giant role in the last three, and after re reading god emperor it makes me think maybe it is how frank herbert wouldve ended it. its not the same. its not as witty. but i needed an ending haha.

Well, as long as they're at least ok I think I'll give them a shot.

I think once I finish this book about Rum, I'm going to get "Bitters: A Spirited History of a Classic Cure-All, with Cocktails, Recipes, and Formulas"

I read it for an Anthropology class in college. It's very academically dry (IIRC), but it was a subject matter I was interested in. So, I enjoyed it.
