craigslist scam?

Post by Greenfuz »

Hello

i'm buying this item asap and due to the nature of my job
and location...i will not be able to come for inspection, i'm a very
busy type as i work long hours everyday,i have gone through your
advertisement and i'm satisfied with it and i i'm ready to pay you
the price if you are ready to sell this item for me...

As for the payment..i can only pay via PayPal online secure payment..I
insisted on paypal because i don't have access to my bank account
online as i don't have internet banking, but i can pay from my paypal
account, as i have my bank a/c attached to it

I have a private courier agent that will come for the pick up after
the payment has been made ...so no shipping included and With the
issue of my details, transferring the name of ownership and signing of
all paperwork will be done by the courier services company agent so
you don't have to worry about that.

You can now send me your PayPal email like this below so i can pay
inright away and also include your address in your reply.

PayPal Email Address
Full Name
All Total Cost
Contact Mobile Number
State
If you don't have a paypal account, you can easily set up one...log on
to www.paypal.com and sign up its very easy...

once i receive the details i will go ahead with the payment and then i
will contact my shipping company after you get the payment. I will
need your home address for the item to be
Picked Up by the Shipping Company..

waiting for you reply
yeah?

It's a scam. I've had similar scams when listing. Don't do it.

A giveaway is when they call whatever you're selling, "item" or some other non-specific name. They're usually using the same generic email to reply to a whole lot of craigslist ads, fishing for suckers.

When I put something up for sale on craigslist, I say something at the bottom like, "Please say more in your reply than, 'Is this item still for sale,' so I can tell you're not a bot. I'll take the ad down when I sell the amp." So now I know every "Is this item still for sale" is definitely spam or a complete idiot; I don't want to deal with either.

Plus everything else about that is sketchy as fuck. Cash in person only, man.

Obvious and common CL spam email. When selling gear on CL, it's pretty apparent who's real and who's not by the line of questioning they choose to present with. Anyone real is gonna ask you specifics about the gear and price, not offer up a deal to buy no questions asked with a 3rd party being dispatched to acquire the item. Oh, and no access to bank accounts or offering up cashier's checks are all red flags too.

Haha, that's both the best and worst version of the CL scam email I've ever read about. Deaf guy wtb bass cab. Perfect!

Maybe he just "feels" his music as a result of being hearing impaired tho and now poor guy can't get a proper CL bass cab deal. ;)

yeah?
I will be the first here to say:

"NO, THIS IS NOT A SCAM"

I always have the name of ownership transfer and all paperwork signing done by the courier services company agent for pedals I'm selling on Craigslist.

You guys don't do that?

^ Only when I'm out of the country on business with no access to my bank account or time to wait on a great CL deal. I thank the gods for reputable courier services in that all too common CL scenario. :thumb:

Is craigslist more common in toronto? Everyone here seems to stick with kijiji.
