If you want something more recent, I'd recommend Sweet Tooth. It's in the vein of much mentioned here; weird and literate but with heart. Published by Vertigo.

I haven't read many comic books, although my friend/the bassist from my last originals band was a mad comic nerd and still tries getting me into them from time to time, but the point was, Y: The Last Man was great.

I like web comics, like xkcd (I think I'm missing a letter), and Toothpaste for Dinner.

I used to read almost all the newspaper comics, now I'll just read Get Fuzzy, Pearls Before Swine, Bizarro, Family Circus, and Garfield (the last two ironically). Typically I just get bored at work and end up drawing dicks on all of them and changing the dialogue to something absurd.

Although the fact that Garfield is actually the crazy delusions of a starved, lonely housecat is kind of super respectable of Jim Davis. Especially since he heavily suggested it over a week and never mentioned it again.

Yeah, I went broke from comics in the early aughts so I don't buy them anymore. Libraries are great, though.

I'll buy a collected edition, but not issues.
