I don't think I've ever really associated Matamp or Orange heads with EWII, although Bagshaw used them on bass for a minute in the first iteration of the band if I remember correctly.

When I think of the Wiz as they are now I think of well-used Marshalls, Laneys, and Hiwatts--whatever's old and not broken yet.

Yea I believe that the recording for those 2 albums was a Matamp GT120 or so. It sure was not the old FZ2+Sound City combo.

Are you sure?

The only reason I ask is that I've never seen or heard of them using that stuff on guitar, just bass.

Totes. But I don't hear much characteristic Matamp in any of the 4-piece recordings as far as guitars go, just a lot of superfuzz + tube riffage.

i think it has much 2 much mids to be a SF, those things like the FZ2 kill ur mid range.

More specifically Let Us Prey was a Matamp Roadster. Gut shots show that it looks like a GT120 but has a seperate preamp tube on the inside of the amp for extra gain. Also a PPIMV to squeeze out all of the gain before volume

Jus was also very well known, from what I've read, for borrowing what ever amp was in the studio and recording with that. He's said to have used everything from SC, Hiwatt and Marshalls to Matamps and Laney's. But Live I've mainly seen Laney and SC.

Also I wiki'd let us prey for shits n giggles and found out that Stephen O'Malley did all the artwork for the CD's and LP's, both originals and reissues. Wicked.

Right, but that'd be the last gasp of the three piece, not the two-guitar Wiz. :doom:

Right, but that'd be the last gasp of the three piece, not the two-guitar Wiz. :doom:

on the next album its quite like they took that amp and added fuzz to push it over the top. Just from my ears diggin into it.

To my ears:

LUP - Matamp

WT - Superfuzz > SC again

:idk:

WT has that more top end fizzy superfuzz sound, LUP is much darker, thicker, and amp gainy sounding to me. I've been toggling back and forth between them here at work. I dunno bud, there's alot of variables that come into play with studio albums. With WT you have Liz's tracks in there too, and many different guitar layers, so there could be matamp in there (and I do hear some of that matamp mid range in the main rythmn guitar tone) but the fizzy high end definitely screams superfuzz to me, and the leads scream laney to me, so you could both be right.

The 4:30 guitar break in WT the song sounds like matamp, but when everything comes back in there's definitely atleast 2 other tones of stark contrast.

When I toured with Weedeater, Keko told me he only started playing drums when the band started with the idea that beating the shit out of something would keep him from fighting all the time, which he was previously inclined.
Those guys would break up on an almost daily basis. And fight pretty regularly, too.
It still blew me away that he actually left, though. I know Travis is a fantastic drummer but I still can't really imagine them without Keko.
