they.... they freak me out. i rarely need 2 octaves above an open string, but it hurts my brain that some basses don't finish what they started fret wise.

I don't have very long fingers / big hands, and my pinkies curve inward so my reach kinda sucks.
For me it's just easier to play, especially power chords.
I play the higher frets sometimes but not all that often so it's not as big of a deal for me to lose a couple. At least I don't think so.
