Re: Edward Snowden, NSA, 4th Amendment
i've assumed since i marched in Vietman War demonstrations in the early 1970s as a secondary-school student that they've been keeping a file on me, and that if they really want to they can come and get me any time they want. i had to give up that kind of paranoia just so i could go ahead and live. at this point i'm like "fuck it, if they take me they take me." but then, i'm not very political and as such don't pose a real risk to the Game.

Re: Edward Snowden, NSA, 4th Amendment
so when i seem bitter and cynical about American politics or the possibility of politics to create positive movement, consider the fact that since i was 14 i knew there was probably a FBI file on me, and that when it comes to surveillance/secrecy questions the Obama administration is the worst since Richard Nixon. and i say this with no reference to his actual POLITICS, but to his apparent penchant, like Nixon, to use government enforcement agencies to quash opposition. he struck me as Bizarro World Nixon from the first time i laid eyes on him. that same weird, disconnected affect; the inability to lie without a tell on his face; the paranoid Enemies List mentality; and the spying on/intimidation of news organiztions.

Re: Edward Snowden, NSA, 4th Amendment
I haven't really commented on the NSA part, other than saying it isn't really news...so:
I have no delusions about the fact that the government can do bad things, unfair, even disturbing things...but the only fear I have about this NSA "revelation" is how many people have access to the info, and how it could be abused by unchecked individuals. (Used for dirt on exes, stalking, blackmail, manipulation, intrusion, etc.) Otherwise, I don't care much what they know about me. People forget, you can only watch so many people. Yeah, computers can efficiently collect huge swaths of info, but how much of it is going to get flagged and really examined? There's not an NSA official for every citizen. Around 40k official NSA employees, maybe 20-30k CIA agents...313+ million people in the US...so...yeah.
That's the thing...if "they" want you, they can get you.
I get a kick out of these guys who stock up on assault rifles, because they believe the US government is gonna come to take their guns and/or kill them, and they want to be prepared. As if one person would stand a chance against a swat team, let alone the military. I mean, I don't think the government's coming for you...but if the government really comes for you, you're fucked.

U.S. Repeals Propaganda Ban
It used to be that the content of Radio Free Europe, Voice of America, and other content produced by Broadcasting Board of Governors couldn't be transmitted in the United States at broadcast quality levels because it was considered propaganda. But that all changed as of July 2 when the content, which reaches 100 countries in 60 different languages, became available in the United States. Part of the reason for the change was so ex-pats living in America could get access to the programming and part of it was so taxpayers can see what their money is being spent on. Decades ago, lawmakers blocked the content in the U.S. because they feared journalism produced by the government would have a corrosive effect on the public.
Just heard this and I have not confirmed it, but kinda thinking Doubleplussungood
