I think the name comes from a description of a Teese wah from the Teese website.

Now I wanna start a forum called:

So now that there is one for sale in the classified section, I gotta ask. WTF is the big deal with Haunting Mids? I just don't understand. I listened to the demos and it sounds like every other pedal I've heard. Sooooooooooooo yea. Why doesn't someone clone that shit like the Klone and sell it on the cheaps for the lols?

HM was one of the off-shoots of the Harmony Central FX forum when that place turned into a shit-show. the invite-only thing was to keep the HC trolls away. that was years ago. honestly, it's not even that focused on gear talk anymore. it's just a bunch of dudes that have been chatting online for a long time about their lives & bands & other BS.

the HM fuzz was produced in three different small batches (and actually two different circuits) built and designed by members. the stipulation was that if you sold it, you'd sell it on HM for the price you paid...but several guys thought it would be funny to hype it up to the TGP crowd because they get so riled up about things they can't have...and the rest is history...

sorry if this is all old news.

Actually, that's really helpful - probably the most cogent summary I've seen of the whole dealio.
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.
