Conky, what kind of drums are you looking for? I'm selling my set and just starting considering shipping as an option.

if you want to make your own stuff, the starting path is take a circuit and break it down to understand what is going on. Gotta get some level of understanding before you can start making new things or slightly new things

Cool. Of course credit is due to that entire website, I just find and read the stuff. They love the muff so much on that site. Beavis audio, which someone else linked to, has a break down of some stuff done in the same manner.

The ARC Big Green Pi is actually loosely based off of my Tall Font Green Muff, I actually lent it to Aaron so that he could get the Big Green to sound pretty damn close.

I got my Tall Font off a different forum about 2 years ago now, and is probably the last pedal I'll ever sell. I've tried to clone it using different specs, but it seems like mine is a V7 Green which is really just swapping out of a few parts, most namely the pf caps. Out of all the muffs I've tried and built, mine just has this really weird dense clarity to the distortion and LOVES being pushed moreso than any muff I've tried.

The BOE Blunderbuss gets kind of close to the sound, but is missing the low end. The EA Supercolider also gets pretty close to the sound as well, with the addition of the mids control. But nothing will 100% act like the Tall Font that I have as far as interaction with other pedals. It does have a gnarly tone suck, but I just throw it in a loop and I'm good to go!

I've got a SUF Green Russian that gets very close to my own tall font...but uses different pots and a 3pdt switch. So it's not a true clone, because even the pots & footswitch play a role in how the unit passes and affects signal.

No doubt about it...every single conductive component in an analog circuit imparts its own color on the signal. Some are negligible, others game-changers.
Skeptics like to say "electrons are electrons" but the fact is conductivity is not conductivity...and resistance as well as resonance frequencies can and do vary.
The variation....even deviation between so-called "identical" models produced in the same batch is very real. Especially with big box EHX effects.

I'm kinda partial to older Ludwig's but any kit will do as long as the shells are bigger and aren't warped. Whachoogot?

Also, new pickup day!

From personal experience, if you're referring to 70's Vistas.... they're scary as fuck.

My buddy just sold his kit because the bearing edges were awful and they crack in temperature changes. We found a small crack on them and that's why we couldn't bring them on the road, would have been toast! be cautious dude!

the bass drum sounded massive, though.

The vistalites are cool but any of the older wooden kits are usually pretty solid.
