Why change to the older version? Do they sound different?

They do imo. Got a really great deal on the v1 too so the decision was pretty easy.

The new one is almost too pristine/digital sounding in most settings and it doesn't stack the greatest. My buddy has the v1, has a grittier, fuller sound when you push the input control which is absent from the v2, sounds massive. I also think that burlier sound comes from the 18V power providing more circuit headroom and output. The XO series uses the 9V standard power and every one I've tried (Polychorus, POG2, and DMM) just don't sound the same when A/B'd.

I also prefer the separate detune sliders, sounds way cooler than the single on the v2. Only features I'll miss are the attack slider and presets but I'll make do.

Have you tried the DMM 1100 with Tap-Tempo? What did you think of it if you did? Is that part of the XO series?

Nah, I just got the regular DMM XO years ago when it was released. It sucked compared to my big box reissue.

The Polychorus XO was even worse, almost laughably bad.

I love lots of the older stuff I've owned and some of the XO series wasn't half bad. All the really big box stuff though has been a real letdown. The tap tempo DMM was so much $ I just said fuck it.

The problem with the DMM w/TT is indeed the price. But there isn't anything else out that fits what I need a small delay to do. The TimeLine is just a shade too big. It's amazing that no one else has tapped into the market of versatile delay with tap-tempo in a small box. Maybe I'll wait to see what good old Subdecay come up with, but that could be another year yet before we see anything from them as regards a Deluxe version of their delays.

That upcoming AD4096 looks like it could be a winner but yeah, price is gonna be ridic. And no mod. The standard sounds fantastic tho so addition of tap tempo, and extra 600+ms of delay time, and CV/exp options sounds almost perfect.

The Subdecay delays are digital I think?
I really like the DMM550TT, I actually like it better than the 1100TT, it feels a bit more natural and it's easier to setup for me because I don't use those really long delay times anyway.
I have a big box DMM as well and while they do sound different (the modulation on the TT sounds different to me and the delays seem to be a bit brighter) I find both of them very inspiring, the most inspiring delays I ever played with, more so than the Timeline I also own.
The DMM XO didn't do it for me either, I don't know, it just didn't feel or sound right next to my big box DMM, I couldn't really set it up to get the sounds I like.
Personally I don't care for that Endangered Audio stuff, talk about overpriced, it's probably great but no modulation already kills it for me.
The DMM TT's are really the most versatile analog delays out there that I know of, tap tempo with lots of different subdivisions (quarter note triplets!), expression control of almost every parameter, subdivision jump mode and infinite feedback on the tap switch that you can setup the way you like.
If you like to get most of these features in a smaller package I'd look at the Way Huge Supa Puss.

I have no problem with digital. It's not a specific tone I'm after. I'm just after a very specific spec sheet and the DMM1100 with Tap-Tempo is bang on the money. Except it looks stupid.

I don't know, both are arguments that don't really count in my book if the pedal does what you want it to do and it sounds and feels right.
About digital delays, they just don't feel or sound the same in my experience, the Timeline is nice but in my opinion the tape or bucket modes are a joke compared to the DMM or DMM TT.
Some PT2399 delays can sound quite nice though, like the DBA Echo Dream 2 for example.

That's the one. They've got an upcoming DLX model with the features I listed but release keeps getting bumped back. The standard sounds amazing but 300ms doesn't work for me.

It'll no doubt be upwards of $450 by then and I'd rather a TimeLine or any number of pedals at that point. I've only heard amazing things from it, though, so maybe one day I'll try the cheaper version out.

I say cheaper because what takes up much of the price of the DMM is the chips inside. If someone could make an excellent sounding digital delay with the same features at a cheaper price and in a better looking box, I'd have no qualms investing in it. But for now I'm basically stuck with the DMM, which isn't a bad thing per say, it's just pricey and ugly. When you're paying €350 for a pedal, you may as well expect awesome aesthetics and not cheap and tacky like the DMM reissue.

I wouldn't say the TimeLine is a joke compared to the DMM, but it's definitely a digital replica and you can tell. It still sounds awesome.

It really is horrendous looking but I bet it's pretty much what you're after beyond that. Price will be outrageous on any competitor that manages a similar unit sadly.


The TL is pretty great and not that large. It won't compare to some anolog delays but with all those options and that looper it's well worth it.
