I hate when they ask questions about it, not specific to your particular item for sale. Google that shit.

I hate haggling so I always pay the price they're asking or I wait for someone with a price I'm willing to pay. When I sell something, the price is exactly what the price is and I almost always sell something for about 75-80% of the max going rate. Most of the time I sell stuff because I just don't need it and I can possibly use the money for something else but an extra $10-20 on a pedal just isn't worth it or even an extra $100-200 on an amp or high end guitar just isn't worth the hassle for me to wait to sell it and deal with low-ball offers or trades for gear I don't want. I've even offered to pay extra than the asking price if someone will hold it for me for an extra day or two. Even when I've just been painfully broke if someone was asking a fair price and if I had the money then that's what I would pay. I hate when someone comes out to my place, tries it out, says they love it but then says they can't afford the asking price...that's just being an asshole. Craigslist is like that though, I've had people come out on band ad's I've put up that have absolutely no concept of the kind of music I'm looking for. Who does that?

I don't really like haggling either but in most situations that's the way it goes, the asking price usually is set in such a way you have to haggle a bit to get a good deal out of it, I guess that's the way most people deal with these kind of situations.

God I hate haggling. Unless someone says "obo" (in which case I'll make a reasonable offer and NOT haggle) I just pay the asking price or don't bother them.

i even prefer to pay more for Buy It Now on eBay rather than wait and have something sniped out from under me at the last moment.

Everyone wants a deal, or at least the illusion that they're getting one. It`s stupid, you have to ask more than it`s worth to get what it`s actually worth. Or wait for the 1/1000 people that don't have ego issues to actually pay what you ask/what it's worth. I hate the whole practice. I also suck at haggling, 'cause I really dont't have the time to go back and forth/argue over something when it doesn't need to be done. I'm a reasonable man; ask a reasonable price, I will pay it. If you don't want to ask a reasonable price, I have other things to do with my time. I have tried asking a reasonable price up front, but people just won't buy unless you drop your price to suit their ego.

I have a tonne of gear I want to sell, but just can't be bothered to deal with the constant hassle of it. I honestly would rather go to a hock shop and get half what it's worth than constantly trade emails with people who aren't going to buy it anyway, or pointlessly negotiate with someone who just wants to power trip over the great deal they got. "OMG, you're so great, you really ripped me off and undercut me by 20%, but I overpriced it by 25..." It's just a stupid way of going about things.

The worst of it all, is that the inflated price scares away people like those of us here that say "I'll pay what they ask to avoid the hassle"

I'm gonna go the Walmart way, and post an inflated price, and say "but I'll sell for 80%" see if that works...

I tend to under sell my things to the point where it is noticeably cheaper than the same product listed by other users but I'm not waiting a month longer to make a 5% profit. It sells faster, I've had less people trying to lowball me and everyone is happy - I get to stop selling and someone gets a decent deal.

I very rarely get asshole buyers.

I've tried going that route. The problem is when you have uncommon things in a not so big city/town, there's no point of reference. People see your price and look onliine. Then they see what Prymaxe wants, or zounds or whatever. Then they forget that I'm in Canada and you have to add shipping and all that wonderful junk, and the more than reasonable price just looks like what it costs online. I can't get a no haggle deal by dropping 5-10% under what' it's really worth. I gotta go 25-30% to avoid the hassle. Then you still can't shake the flakes with the knee jerk reactions mentioned above. Or the ones that feel like asking 1 question per email.

-Is it available?

-yes

-how much?

-what the ad says

-are you availabe this specific time?

-NO, how about these other broad windows that I have to go out of my way to accomodate to get this thing done?

-no response...

Make sure your ad says all that... I am spoiled in ATX so I should not comment but a good pic paired with "LOCAL CASH ONLY, NO SHIPPING, IF YOU SEE THIS AS IT IS STILL FOR SALE, INCLUDE PHONE # OR I'LL DELETE, PRICE IS FIRM, NO TRADES" and that kinda shit and you'll be a CL pro in no time... :thumb:

I've had mostly good experiences on CL. It's kind of annoying when people ask "what's the best price you can give me?" I hate that people hassle me on something that's already a pretty good deal (I price stuff to sell it, I hate sitting on gear) just so they can save usually like $20. if $20 means that much to you then you probably have no business buying gear right now. but whatever, I really don't give a shit about money, it's not important to me. people in texas are usually pretty nice in my experience.
The most annoying experience I've had was selling to a total TGP stereotype middle aged dude who wanted to check out my chorus pedal. he was very talk downy and uppity. fuck that guy.

I know that, but based around how much money you're paying it's not a big deal
