Fuckin' right whiskeyface.
I can't even imagine what that baritone sounds like through your setup.
In other news, my plan to build a 408 clone has been put on hold, due to lack of having a shop to use.
Here's hoping I can weasel my way into somebody's shop to do some work.
Route, glue, repeat.

Dirty dirty sex.

Was kinda a keyboard centric night.

This chic from Fist Fite is nuts. She was all over the place jumpin around and rockin out HARD. Didnt seem to miss a note on the keys and her mic kept falling and she didnt skip a beat. Badass.

Black Pussy's setup makes me jealous and I dont even play em.

I wanna tame the dirt channel on my Hotrod 100+ a little bit. These amps are weird. Even though they go to 11 the gain and volume knobs don't do anything until you turn them to 2 (I asked Mike Soldano if it was normal when I got my amp and he said they were designed that way. Can't remember the reason though). I have mine on 3 and even though I like dirty cleans, its a little too dirty for me. To bring it down a little should I replace it with a 12ay7 or 12at7? Don't wanna bring it down too much though, like maybe to have my gain knob up on 5 or 6 to have it as dirty as it is now on 3.

I know I could just use the clean channel but without a footswitch plugged in it defaults to the dirt channel. The clean channel doesn't have that balsy feeling of the dirt channel either. Plus, I don't wanna have to hook up a footswitch if I'm never gonna use it.

EDIT:

Also, not trying to spam but I'm not sure what the value is these days on this:

Image

Its an early 80's vertical input 2204. The picture on the faceplate is a magnet that is covering two holes that were drilled in it. It was going to be modded but never was and its still all stock. My tech confirmed it when I got it retubed. Also the tolex probably isn't original, I dunno though. I know the face of it isn't because I replaced the black grill cloth that was on it with the purple. What would you guys sell it for? There's these two bands that I really wanna put out on a split 12" and this would be sold to fund it. Still on the fence about letting it go though.

I had a 1984 one. Great amp. I'm in the market for one of those or a JMP, but I'm mostly looking for a trade and I'm sure the shipping isn't that sensible...

I played it though a 2x12 at the guys house and it sounded amazing...120w of pure power!

Now i need to buy a cab...i would love to get a 4x12, but those things are so damn big for my flat...does anyone gig with a 2x12? not sure i'f i'm wasting my money buying a 2x12 only to buy a 4x12 when i start gigging...or maybe i buy a 2x12 and then buy another 2x12 later...

If you're gonna gig with 2 2x12s then you might as well save space and multiple trips carrying shit by just getting a 4x12. I've gigged with a 2x12 before, I didn't like it.

Fucking awesome, mate! That is sick. I'm really glad you like it. I wanted to offer an opinion when you asked about it, but I've never tried it. I'm relieved it's what you wanted.

And I would be pushed to gig with a 2x12. I would do it if it's all I had and would still sound awesome, but I would always try and include another 2x12 or just go to a 4x12.

thanks guys.

so, ill probably get a 2x12 for now, and if i gig and i can sell it and buy a 4x12, i just cant justify a 4x12 right now.

one question, given this is a 120w head, what would the total cab wattage need to be? is 120w enough or does it need to be more? Considering, that while i use it at home this amp will be used at low volumes.

I only have a 2x12 from Matamp at the moment. I'll be picking up a 4x12 if I ever start gigging again.

A 120 watt cabinet for a 120 watt amp is fine as long as you gently wear the speakers in and don't crank the amp out of the box. Let the speakers adjust to a little distortion and it should be fine. I would always invest in a pair of 100 watt speakers, though, to be on the safe side.

I think you will be fine with a 2x12 for now. And if you do ever start gigging it will serve you till you can upgrade to either replace it or combine it with a 4x12. You normally want to aim higher then the amp's wattage,I normally aim to double. You can aim for a little bit lower as it will drive the speakers a little bit harder and that can give you some good sounds. That what happens when people use greenbacks I think, since they are lower wattage speakers.

You could get a cab with eminence speakers in them as a lot of those speakers are rated pretty highly and so two of them would have no problem handling the wattage. I have a pair of tonkers (which supposedly sound like old fanes) in a 2x12 that are rated at 150w each. They would be more then enough for the laney. They are also rated at 102dB efficiency, which means they will be louder at the same volume from the amp compared to a speaker rated at say 100dB like a lot of celestions.
