Project Update #41: A brief statement on not meeting our original deadline.
Posted by devi ever
It's come to my attention that there are some people who think my latest Console kickstarter is vaporware... especially people who don't trust kickstarter in general and aren't involved with the project.
First of all, I'd like to remind everyone that we have already used kickstarter in the past to launch the Silver Rose, as well as helping redesign our smaller circuits so that eventually I have been able to offer the $60 fuzzes you see come up from time to time.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dev ... 5-hyperion
Yes, we ultimately didn't have everything built in a factory, but the quality of our handmade SMD pedals are just as good, if not better, than our through-hole wired products. Yes, we didn't end up continuing to sell the $85 Hyperion on a regular basis.... and yes, we were behind schedule on releasing the original batch of Silver Roses, but once again, at the end of the day, we DID pull through, and for a few years we were able to build Silver Roses to those who were interested, and now we are able to offer $60 fuzzes.
Another thing that comes up from time to time I'd like to address, is that people who are fans of Ken's Infanem- Instruments for a New Electric Music feel like somehow the Console is taking away from his own projects. This couldn't be further from the truth, because not only has a huge portion of the kickstarter funding gone towards Ken's design work, which in turn helps support his own original designs, but one of the reasons the project has taken longer than we expected, is because he is doing the design work on the downtime between his own projects.
Normally I wouldn't even begin to address this kind of hearsay because it's completely unsubstantiated, especially based on both Ken's and my own good record of coming through on projects in the long term, but I keep hearing this stuff come up time and time again, especially as the project has taken longer than we expected... and I understand the frustration that we haven't met the deadline like we wanted, but... once again, our track record has proven that we WILL come through, and the project will be worth it.
As always, you can find the latest updates on the Console kickstarter here > http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dev ... edal/posts
... and if all goes according to plan, we should have finished enclosure prototypes and final PCB's on all the main console boards within the next month or so.
Thanks as always for your p atience, support, and understanding.

His other "own projects" like reissuing Devi's circuits?
I feel like you usually want to be saying, "Sorry, we know we're late, we're working as hard as we can," not "Sorry, we know we're late, we're working on it whenever we feel like it."

Fwiw, I never doubted you or Ken.
Yeah well search the username devi ever.
...not sure but I think the latest kickstarter page update is hardly coincidence though the user devi ever has - according to the profile info - last been active in April.

Bingo!
In the mean time... Sorry shareholders we are living off of your investments in "R&D".
I understand being behind, and frankly I think it's a cool idea. I just won't be an early adopter.

Really? I read it as Ken is working hard inbetween his own projects instead of masturbating, playing video games, and sleeping. BUT HEY I GUESS IF YOU WANNA READ IT LIKE THAT WHATEVER MAN.

I'd respond to this, but I have no idea what drinking the juice means.

It's only $40,000.
What could you do with $40,000?

I read it as Ken is *only* doing the design work during his down time and at no other time, not that he was also using his down time in addition to regularly scheduled time, which would be a pretty dumb way to manage a project. The "one of the reasons the project has taken longer than we expected" at the beginning made me interpret it that way, but I dunno. The latter possibility didn't even occur to me, but if that's the case, then I'll take it back and say Ken is pretty awesome.

Re: Whatever happened to the devi ever Console thing?
It seems to me like both Ken and Devi have a bunch of stuff all going on at once which is totally understandable but...
When you take people's money (and a lot of it for the Console III) and list a certain date that you plan to have these out by and the project turns into something that appears to be on the back-burner, that doesn't look good. I realize that they have to keep their businesses going and strive for growth (through new development) but maybe they should have waited before starting this project so they could make it their first priority (honestly it doesn't seem like it is right now from Devi's recent post but I could be wrong)
And if I found out I paid for pedal that was planned to be shipped out by a certain date and found out those funds were being used to develop a different pedal that I might have no interest in (this doesn't work in my case since I dig all of Ken's designs) and the deadline for my product was being pushed back, I'd be kind of upset.

Really. It's only forty grand.
What could forty grand do? Not like that could buy a car, or a bunch of computers, or pay an engineers salary for six months, or secure some parts or manufacturing or anything. I mean, it is only forty grand.

Just offering a different (albeit somewhat sarcastic) perspective. I don't know for sure either. When I emailed Devi about the improbability drive, it did sound like a side project for Ken, something he was working on when he had time to, it wasn't a main focus, apparently it got done before other things, like the console or his own circuits. I can imagine tracing two similar circuits and combining them for a reissue takes a lot less time than coming up with a unique design of your own and testing it, perfecting it, etc. Ao yeah, it makes sense to me that the ID came out much quicker than anything else he is working on.
I only know of one time where Devi failed to deliver (workhorse anyone?) and I have a lot of personally great experiences with her building me pedals, collaborating, etc. So I am going to be biased and defensive towards her. Take what I say with a grain of salt, because I have never had a bad transaction with her.

I don't care when it comes out, so long as it can interface with the Inventobox.
HAHAHA!
The alarm went off for me when this... thing... was spammed across all the DIY sites, as if the DIY angle was anything more than marketing. It makes no sense to DIYers capable of arithmetic, as it works out to be cheaper to build pedals in boxes.
I wonder how all of the committed builders feel about the timeline on this project.

I was thinking about that the other day as well. I know there were a bunch of builders that were on board for it, hopefully that is still the case!
