Edward Snowden, NSA, 4th Amendment
I'm really disappointed with my government, which for me is nothing new. But now I'm reading polling numbers taken after the Edward Snowden NSA leaks showing the majority of Americans support the NSA's collection of all telephone records and online user data. I'm stunned that the backlash has been so tepid. So I'm wondering what people here think, maybe ILF can cheer me up.

I think most people would rather have the NSA knowing that they're sexting with the minister than being caught in the aftermath of some kind of terrorist attack.
Intellectually, I have a problem with it. Practically, I understand that there's a huge chasm between this and 1984 or the Iron Curtain or whatever freedom-hating analogy is in vogue right now.

Just realize you are not in a free society and watch what you say, especially on social media and phones. Big brother IS watching you.

I wonder who is actually surprised by this?
Yes, I think it is fucked up. One of my first thoughts after 9/11 was, well there go our civil rights. Boom, Patriot Act announced shortly after.
So we have started down the slippery slope awhile back.

Unfortunately it's not very surprising.

I don't say anything or do anything online that is illegal, but I'm sure that a lot of stuff is potentially very embarrassing, and I don't like that the government has access to it. It just kind of seems like they want information that they can blackmail you with later on. I don't like being fearful of a body of elected officials...

This. So this. Anyone who hasn't been in a coma for the last twelve years should have known or at least assumed this was happening.
Dirty Fucking Hippies like me lost the political fight on the appropriate level of surveillance activity multiple times and years ago. I figured that I had lost decisively and moved on and have a hard time getting worked up about this. If everybody else wants to scale it back, I'm down with that. I really am. But I doubt we're anywhere near a plurality, much less a majority, and our political actors no how to ignore 98% majorities calling for action anyway.

I think they've been doing this for awhile now under the Patriot Act and just not advertising it. I think it's BS too, but what can you do in the "land of the free". Free my ass. Anyone that things anything is free can suck my left testicle. Even that comes at a cost my friends. A dirty, sexy cost.

What's fucked about ^^^ is, I saw a few Latino names in there. Also, racists should try and boost their credibility some by, idk, learning to fucking spell? Perhaps cutting back on the grammatical errors? Maybe?

It's hard to be an educated racist. They are pretty much mutually exclusive.

Oh, no, they exist. I hate that they do, but they do. They may be few and far between. But they're out there.
