Do the shows free but link to paypal tip jars for the bands when announcing? (I'd keep it indirect/subtle, like say in a link at the top of the band's linked page.)

Re: Legality of house shows, what do?
Just read that article...don't they have any real fucking crime in Boston?
I agree with some of the points about safety/basement/fire/noise/blah...but fuck. Pretty sure there is some more important shit going on, elsewhere.
Although, cops tend to think like, "hmmm, we need to make our quota on drug busts, but all the guys we usually bust this time of month have paid their bribes...how do we find new people to hang this shit on...wait, I know! people who like music do drugs! Let's go fuck em in the ass!"
I would say this whole thing is a money-making/revenue raising/letspatourselvesonthebackfordoingsomerealcivicduty kinda venture.
Terrorists won guys.
Which really meant the conservatives did.
Although not if shit just goes further underground...and more people are having freaky shower sex at shows. Sorry, that story just ruled so fucking hard!

Cave shows would rule!
So just an update in case anyones curious. House was shut down, but...
It looks like this whole ordeal will be the birth of a new LEGAL venue. So we'll see how it goes. Also the church concept may get incorporated into this.
Church of the Riff.
Dudes being kinda hush about it till all the paperworks is done and it's a real thing.

I seem to remember reading a post about someone who played a cave show. Can't remember if it was here or at TB, but apparently it was awesome.

Re: Legality of house shows, what do?
Probably for the best if it goes legit. I would be up and moving to your area from across the oceans if the guy could put together church, that's primary function was to worship the riff and play in (a) cave/s. Coolest fucking concept ever.
I always wanted to tour regional Australia, playing and recording shit in all the ghost mining towns out there, and other venues supposedly haunted. Our indigenous people believe there are some areas of the land too that people have no right being near because of the intense spiritual activity there.
I'm atheist, so I don't believe that, but its an awesome concept that the land itself is charged with the supernatural.
This only highlights even further how white I am.

well, abandoned railroad tunnels are pretty foreboding if there's no natural caves around Your location.

Re: Legality of house shows, what do?
i just have to note the irony involved in simultaneous threads about 1.) being quiet enough not to bother neighbors when practising and 2.) neighbors complaining about house shows, largely because of sound levels. i don't have a solid position on house shows, but if you're living in a typical city or suburban neighborhood and expect to have shows in your basement without pissing off the neighbors you're dreaming.
