Prymaxe Vintage sucks, but let's talk about food too! :)

That's why they put the pedal in an envelop without any protection (to keep low rate).

Everything I've bought from them has arrived in a well padded box but perhaps their policies have recently changed. Another advantage (at least in the UK) is that their deliveries arrive via Royal Mail or Parcel Force rather than some unscrupulous and unreliable private courier.

I should add that I'd prefer to buy pedals direct from a producer where possible and I don't doubt that Prymaxe's strategies prioritise their pursuit of profit over customer service, the plight of builders or the broader scene/industry. However, for international buyers the advantages of using them are even more pronounced. A $100 pedal can often be acquired for around $95 including shipping, while it might cost $150 when shipping and fees are taken into consideration if another dealer is used. Purchasing the same pedal in one's home country might not even be an option.

yah. i didn't know they tried to push builders into taking a cut in profits to justify their cuts and discounts.

if i want something i can't get through the builder, like MASF, or one of the big boys like Strymon, i would use them. but even if it ends up $20 more to buy from a builder, i'd way rather that money go to someone doing amazing stuff and try to make sure MORE awesome things are on the way.

If you're only buying one or two small items (like MXR, Boss, Devi Ever, etc.) they'll usually get shipped in a thin envelope/bag. That policy has been in place for several years now.

Also, the courier used really doesn't have anything to do with Prymaxe, as they literally just give the packages to USPS. USPS is probably using Royal Mail or Parcel Force's services once they leave the US.
well i guess, but i just don't know.

Yeah, the state postal services tend to co-operate. Unfortunately not all American dealers use USPS to send things overseas as I've discovered to my cost! I expect Prymaxe just use USPS because it's cheap(?).

Exactly. It's also because USPS doesn't double-check the weight of every single package.

And you can fool them with custom stuff.

It's excellent to see some builders chiming in, reiterating the facts I mentioned several pages ago. As a consumer, this stuff just went over my head, always figured Prymaxe alone took the loss on their inventory due to the constant sales but when I heard they were forcing builders to cut profits in order for Prymaxe to stay afloat, I began to see just how shady their practices were. Before hearing any of this info, I noticed the Prymaxe sale percentages dropping from 15% to 13% to 12% which told me they were getting in trouble. If you run a business like that, eventually you don't have enough money to replenish that inventory. Funny that Prymaxe expects builders to take a hit and make up the losses that their "cutting edge business model" is responsible for.

I've hated Pryamxe for awhile and tried to resist sales (IT'S HARD!) because I didn't want to support a company without morals or ethics, one that was bringing harm to a market I both love and respect. On a side note, interesting to hear they lie to the USPS, where does it end? My dad has worked for the USPS my entire life and he's seen the decline first hand. They aren't a Federally funded agency, they have to make their own money and they're sinking at an alarming rate, losing MILLIONS every day while people bitch about buying a 42 cent stamp or whatever to mail a letter across the country. Get in your car people, drive that letter across the country, see if that stamp would've been cheaper. Good to hear that Prymaxe adds to that decline by blatantly lying about package weight, then blames employees when they're busted, just a little extra douchiness thrown on top there

Anyway, where was I. Oh, so I avoid Prymaxe but then what do I do? Use other dealers, but ask if they can knock something off to get me near Prymaxe prices. That's a dick move on my part but I guarantee I'm not alone, it's a result of what Prymaxe has done to the entire market. Every dealer matched, every time, they know they have to in order to compete. In recent months, I've stopped using that leverage against guys that are cool enough to honor builder MAPs and treat the customer and builders alike with respect. Shawn at Analogue Haven, Ted at MusicToyz, Scott at Axe And You Shall Receive, etc, etc. Many good dealer options to go with out there, they'll treat you well and offer incentives to return. I recommend them all over Prymaxe.

It's hard, saving a buck is VERY enticing but sometimes you just gotta do the right thing. And if direct sales are available, I ALWAYS go that route. Shit, most ILF builders give me discounts without even asking, just an incentive for being a return customer and an online pal over the years. Keep that in mind as well. :thumb:

Hahaha yeah I hate that guy's voice and he says some ridiculous shit full of dumb words people use to describe toan. The demos are normally pretty ok otherwise though.

Aw I love the old prymaxe demos. he played the coolest music and actually made me want the pedals. I guess I play similar stuff though. The new guy, though, seems like he's geared more towards a "tgp-like" audience. ehh not for me.

Thanks for the input Schnikes and all the builders! I've only ordered from a builder a couple times and I've ordered through a dealer (including prymaxe) ~10 times. Honestly, I try to buy used no matter what. But I'm gonna try to stay away from prymaxe for a while after hearing all of this. :/

Today's email blast may shed some light on the problems:

"THE MORE YOU BUY THE MORE YOU SAVE
-$15 OFF ORDERS $95 AND HIGHER, CODE PRY15, $30 OFF ORDERS $195 AND HIGHER, CODE PRY30, 15% OFF ORDERS $295 AND HIGHER, CODE PRY295 ..."

Your highest savings are achieved with an order of $95.
