I'm sure it has already been mentioned and most contributors are probably American but Prymaxe has the best international shipping rates/options that I've found. Some builders/dealers charge absurd and prohibitive amounts to send pedals to the UK.

That's why they put the pedal in an envelop without any protection (to keep low rate).

The second one I had to go to my post office to pay for shipping since Prymaxe somehow screwed up the weight of the package.

Yep, that's because they lie to USPS when they're printing their shipping labels. I was ordered to ship "25lb" 2x12 Combo Amps overseas on more than one occasion. If Prymaxe got caught in the lie, I got a good talkin' to (or a pay cut) even though I was only doing what I was told to do.

Wow, that's shit, I really didn't know that.
As an international customer it's even more attractive to buy from them because the shipping easily saves you another $20,- and they apparently have a handle to get things through customs easily and if that works it saves yet another 19% - 25%.

Yep, that's because they lie to USPS when they're printing their international labels. Sure, it saves you a quick buck... But don't be surprised when your pedal arrives completely unprotected in a paper-thin priority envelope.. That's what you're paying for.

It's kind of silly to be like "man, I saved all this money by shopping there!" and then say "man, my shit came broken in a ziplock bag with a first-class label on it!" once it arrives. You're getting what you pay for.

I disagree. I paid over 300 dollars for a pedal. I expect it to be protected. I'm not getting what I paid for. I paid for a goddamn brand new pedal with a sale discount. It's not my fucking fault that they don't have business ethics.

By your logic (which doesn't seem very logical), I or anyone else, deserve to get shafted because we wanted to save money. How the FUCK does that make any sense?????

I think you're misunderstanding VDP a bit. He has no fucking love for Prymaxe, trust me. I'll let him elaborate if he feels like it.

He's saying 1.) They're shady fucks that do fucked up shit in order to undercut all of the other competition price-wise. 2.) The fact that they're crazy cheaper than everyone else should throw up a red-flag. Not exactly caveat emptor, but just calibrate your bullshit-detector.

I think that if a retailer decides to offer a constant sale, it shouldn't come with the conditions that they skimp on the shipping, demote/terminate employees, lie to USPS about the weight of a product, or ask more of a percentage from the builder supplying the product. Unfortunately, that's just the tip of the iceberg with Prymaxe.

Too many good builders in this thread saying the same thing = buying direct or from a dealer who respects the builders.

The difference between buying from small scale manufacturers and giants like Boss is the relationship you have to the product and the person/s behind it. Inadvertently screwing them over does not compute.

I know it's great, as a customer, to find a good deal. I'm cool with seasonal sales. But my prices are already super low--because I want people to always get a good deal--and if I wanted my pedals to be 15% cheaper, I'd make MAP 15% lower (but my prices are too low to afford that).

Since dropping them, my sales have increased. Other dealers who honor MAP agreements (and do seasonal sales) have placed new orders that have more than made up for not selling to Prymaxe, and direct sales have gone up. When customers resell my pedals, there won't be that additional 15% loss...and I'm not put out of business by a greedy retailer who doesn't give a shit about me.

And this is what every small builder should do in that situation. your pedals are ALREADY a good deal, same with other small builders like SSBS, Dr. Sci, IE and others. IMO there is no reason not to buy from you guys direct.

also builders shouldn't tolerate something as heinous as prymaxe treats their builders. you and other DO make good products, and you should NOT deal with them. your products are beyond their "strategy" and as you said avoiding them helped your business. they need the builder, the builder doesn't need the business man. the game is yours! you deal the cards.

That said, some prices on some pedals are quite ridiculous (I'm not talking about the builders from here but mostly about the bigger boutique guys) and I wouldn't feel sorry for ordering that stuff from Prymaxe one bit to cut the costs a little.

I understand that...and those guys probably aren't as hurt when Prymaxe demands 5% extra profit and slashes their prices by 15%, because their MAPs are already inflated hundreds of times above their costs. And when I do buy gear made by a gigantic corporation, I go for the discounts.
