That's a stunning guitar. I have a Telecaster '72 Custom from Japan, and when I have enough money to spend another €300 on it, it'll be a fantastic instrument. As it stands it's still a really solid instrument and very airy sounding. I have a Broadcaster single-coil in the bridge (where has this pickup been all my life?) and Fender's cheap humbucker in a Wide-Range enclosure in the neck (wish this was never part of my life). I'll replace that with a Creamery WRHB or a Lollar if I have extra money. It'll be totally dope then. The nut that I had cut for it wasn't worth €50. It wasn't installed securely (though the tech said it will settle over time, which doesn't sound ideal to me because then the action will gradually lower itself and will buzz against the frets, something I'll have to pay again to fix) and wasn't cut accurately enough for my tastes. I don't have the balls to complain, though, and he's the only guy I know in a 50 mile radius who can do it.

I want a 4003 so bad

So, I went to the shop where I played the 4003 and brought my P-bass with me for a side by side comparison.

No doubt the Ric looks cool as fuck and bridge pickup is nasty and amazing, but I definitely preferred the neck on my P-bass and the pickup over the Ric neck pickup (probably because the output was so low). I know the neck on Rics vary from year to year, but this one is really chunky. The flat profile is cool with me, just not the thickness. & it's Fireglo. Which is cool, but it's not my preferred finish, & if I'm dropping over $1500 on an instrument, my preferences are very important.

So the Ric gas has cooled off for now. Will definitely keep my eyes out for one I like, but don't need to rush.
However, this experience does increase my desire to throw a Ric bridge pickup in my P

I've never spent $1500 on a guitar, but I'd be damn picky if I was to.

I have a The Creamery WRHB in the neck of my '72 AVRI. It's incredible...I just posted a picture of it in the show your guitars thread.

I saw that, yeah. I thought you had a serious guitar collection, just really classy instruments.

How do you find the WRHB for high gain fuzzy sounds? Do you feel you should have saved a little more and bought something like a Lollar or one of the other America-made iterations?

Will do, mate. I imagine it'll be too expensive to ship across from Ireland to America, but I'll keep you in mind. :thumb:

Thanks ;)

Depends on what you'd call high gain, but it sounds great to me. Jaime's stuff is pretty good and I don't see why you'd need to fork out a bit more for a US made pup. I have Fralins in my other Tele as a point of comparison and The Creamery's are definitely on par. Plus he's in the EU, so it's a whole lot more convenient... Being in France and using euros, Lollar, Novak and The Creamery were around the same amount of money anyway when S&H and customs were factored in, so I went with whom seemed to had the best customer service. Chatting Jaime up about WRHB, he looked like he had his shit together so I went with his and never looked back. Jaime is now my favored guitar pup maker : Craftmanship as well as customer service is downright awesome. ;)

Definitely planning on doing that eventually. Delay + fuzzzzzz.
Wahahahahah It has two little holes on the back, "vibrato holes", which will do the same thing, but probably more subtle.

He's a nice guy to talk to, isn't he? He's got the British charm and an outgoing personality—at least through emails. Once I have a little more money I'm definitely going to invest in a WRHB from him, especially after hearing your testimony. I'd also like to replace the bridge single-coil, but it's fine as it is. I was going to buy a set of his Filtertron style humbuckers for a La Cabronita build, but at the last minute I found out that he uses regular humbuckers enclosures and won't have period correct dimensions until later this year.

What do you think of his guitars? I like the concept of them a lot, but they look too unfinished and DIY for my tastes. Knowing the quality, though, I imagine they play and sound great.

He sure is. My bandmate bought a set from him for a Jazzcaster he has someone building and he'd agree as well.

The bridge pup in my '72T is from The Creamery as well. Jaime actually made me a custom set based on my requirements and tastes so both the pickups would have a balanced volume, and he sure got everything right. Be sure to mention the country of origin of your guitar, cause they need diferent diameter for the bridge pup screws.

I agree. I find it's quite a shame that he won't finish (painting or even staining) a guitar cause I could have been tempted by one of his instead of buying an AVRI. I was actually considering buying boutique but no builder were to match my spec, Danocaster apart, but he wouldn't let a guitar go without relicing it which was a dealbreaker...

I was interested in a Danocaster as well (I personally love relic guitars, either naturally or artificially, but I can understand why some possess a distaste for it), but he wouldn't defer from the original specifications of vintage models, specifically the fretboard radius. I just couldn't drop €2000 on a guitar that wasn't specified to my tastes in its entirety, so I bit the bullet and bought a second-hand affordable vintage Japanese model with a 9.5" radius. I still want a 10-12" compound radius, but I'm happy with the neck as it stands.

I'm thinking whether it's worth waiting a little while longer and ordering a matched set from Jaime. I kinda want a Bareknuckle broadcaster single coil, but it might not be matched to the Creamery WRHB. Do you think it's worth it?

Oh right, that too. I had the same issue with the radius. I guess I remembered the relic thing more accurately as it sounded dumb to me. Just finish the guitar, I'll spare you the banging it on the wall part. I'm clumsy enough to do it myself. :idk:

That's what I wanted to do, finding a MIJ one, at first. It turned out to be rather impossible or too close in price to the AVRI when factoring in import fees/customs and S&H. Plus the AVRI came with a case which decreased the difference as well. 1200 euros for a used MIJ bought online in Japan, 1600 euros for a brand new AVRI with case in the finish and fretboard material of my choice which I could bring back to the shop if I wasn't satisfied with it... It was easy. Import duties in France are about 25% of the sales price including S&H (VAT is 19,6%), it makes you want to buy within the EU - and I'm fine with it, once you go French, you never go back :!!!:

Where, when and for how much did you find yours ?
