I've been wanting to get one of those resonator covers with the built-in pickup for my resonator mandolin, but it costs more than the mandolin.
Chankgeez, I'm assuming you mean the National Hot Plates with the Lollar Tele pickups? Those things look amazing but yeah, they cost almost three times what I paid for this guitar! One day though.
Yep, that's the one.
I've got a Chinese made Johnson National copy (which I like a lot actually), but it seems silly to spend more on a pickup for it than I did on the instrument itself. Yeah, when I get a nicer instrument maybe. I kinda want a resonator mandola or mandocello.
Yeah that's how I feel too. I really want to get a nice steel body resonator. Maybe one of the Republics or the Hot Rods that are on National's site. I think I could put a Hot Plate on one of them.
Holy Schnikes wrote:Bass VI showed up yesterday. So very good, such a unique instrument, really comfortable to play and the Custom Shop pickups sound HUGE! Probably gonna sell my bass soon cuz this thing is the perfect guitarist's bass, like the ultimate in betweener.
Man that is a sexy guitar/bass. I've been gassing for one of them for so long now! I'd definitely have to get the Pawn Shop version though.
I would love to try one out. If I like it enough I might even try to sell my bass to fund it. I hope a store around here will finally get one in stock.

Yeah, those Pyramid strings are nice for sure.
The Bass VI goes fucking things up not only because of that 30" scale but also because they require extra length due to the JM-style trem, something like 36" but they also require the tapered ends to fit into the small guitar tuners as opposed to the normal fatty bass tuners. You'd think with the Pawn Shop model, companies would be all over it. Nope. Most I contacted didn't even know what a Bass VI was haha and if they did, they sure as hell didn't know it had been rereleased.

Thanks!
I keep hearing the Pawn Shop model is badass but I've yet to see one in person anywhere. Interested to see how it compares tho, bet the HB sounds awesome.

Thanks dude! Sorry the picture is sideways. I was on my phone. Just got the itch to do something different night before last and took it apart, then painted it last night. Did two layers of gold Krylon, then two layers of clear gloss on top to protect it. It's still pretty thin on top of the original silver, so I anticipate the silver making an appearance again over more worn areas!

I wanna try a wood bodied resonator. Actually, the guitar I really wanna try would be a National Aragon (or a copy).

That'd be pretty sick with pickups in it. I also wanna try using flatwound strings on a resonator. Haven't tried that yet.
