Re: flipping ethics
I've found recently that pedals I've bought in from the US now cost a shit load more due to USPS and their fucking extortionate shipping charges, which now often lead to increased customs charges. Flipping them back to folks in the US is pointless because to try and make SOME money back, and also exchange rates factored in, they'd most likely be better off buying the pedals new.
I would always favour the ILF crowd in terms of giving a good deal. A local BST site is notorious for lowball offers so I'd almost always jack up the prices on there a little just to give me some haggling space to try and get the price I actually want.
Saw some behaviour on here regarding a recently released limited edition pedal which certainly tarnished my view of those users. Some of them i'd noticed before for their apparent "buy and flip for profit just coz it's limited" practices. Personally I think it's pretty lame behaviour. Whatever about lashing stuff up on eBay for the masses, but don't try to buttfuck your ILF brothers.

Dude. You have to make a profit if you can. BUT! That being said, take that shit to another forum. Don't try and make a huge profit with your ILF bros.

Do you HAVE to make a profit though??
What's wrong with even just covering your costs?

Why is that though?
Just really curious because I have never understood that whole mentality.

That's a good point, although to be honest I'm a little fixated on the notion that you "have" to make a profit. Maybe I'm just over analysing it

Re: flipping ethics
I don't think I've ever sold anything for profit on here.
A) You guys know the market value of these things
B) Usually I'm in a rush to flip something to buy something else, so I'll take a cut
C) You guys are my family
D) Even though the pedals never usually leave my apartment I still feel that retroactive obligation to mark stuff down like a car when it rolls off the lot

You don't "have" to make a profit: you're free to sell your pedals for whatever you want. However, most people sell theirs for as much as the market will pay for them, so you'd be the only one losing if you don't play the game their way. More power to you if you want to be the mother teresa of pedal flippers though...changing the pedal flipping game one bargain at a time

this is a family to me as well,
to see a pedal I unloaded now on the BST for well over twice what I bought and sold it for just really kindof sucks.
I understand that you can sell stuff for what the Market dictates and certainly won't be selling my home at purchase cost if I ever move,
I am curious if the perspective changes if you are playing out or just hoarding pedals like me, I don't technically need 95% of what I own so I am very rarely looking to improve a rig for anything other than just having new toys.

Not trying to be Mother Teresa or anything, I just don't understand people's constant need to make money at every available opportunity. But sure what the fuck do I know. Fuck yeah, 'Murica!!!!!

Re: flipping ethics
I’ve actually given away more gear than I’ve sold.
I’m a sucker LOL
On the down side of flipping in the early ‘70s I bought an old Gibson archtop in a pawnshop for $75 and a couple of years later sold it for $125.
Fast forward 40 yeas, last one like it I saw for sale was a steal at $12K.
I’m always too late or too soon to profit.
