Hmm, if I see it i'll try it, supermarkets only carry the bigger sellers though and that happens to be Soy & Rice normally.

I have worked in Food most of my adult life so I have been a huge carnivore up until I started changing my diet about 3 months ago.

Both my mother and my farther were poor growing up so they taught my brother and I to clean our plates. So I have the ability to enjoy and eat almost anything, raw, cooked, it really doesn't matter. I will eat a cows ass if cooked right.

In the last three months I have almost stopped eating red meat though I enjoy it but my health takes priority. Not a big fan of chicken either though I tend to eat a lot of it because its cheep but like to avoid it when I can.

Also gave up most cheeses. Its tasty but I really don't care fore it that much to the point where I need it. Eat a lot of fish because the sea gives a lot of tasty things.

However if there is a full rack of ribs cooked and its cheat day...count me in.

ex i'm still great friends with had me try almond milk for the first time when i was staying w/ her in denver a couple months ago. very good, but didn't make me switch from vanilla soy...

this has me wanting to start another thread asking who else is nuts about gardening their own veggies.

edit: oh yeah, i'm still guilty of dairy. have even started making my own cheese too! :animal:

Almond milk rules, but coconut milk is where it's at, especially for cereal and coffee.
Haven't drank "real milk" since about 2006...but have eaten meals that call for milk and cream...

Also a recovering cheese-a-holic...but fresh mozz is just so good...and there is no substitute for it.

Vegan "cheeses" are horrific.

Scruffie wrote:Frys, you can find it in a few Holland & Barretts if they have a freezer section, just called slicing sausage - http://www.frysvegetarian.co.uk/wp-cont ... cklen1.jpg It's damn near addictive. Have you tried the packet mix burgers?

i'm usually a bit scared of the holland and barretts freezer section as it always looks like things have been in there for years and are mummified :)
also they seemed to have a lot of brands that are based on wheat gluten, which i dont eat.

but i will have a look into that sausage. i think i tried the packet mix burgers once before but i cant remember.

i tend to just buy base ingredients, like vegetables, beans, pulses etc, but it can get a bit samey with my limited repertoire of recipes.
also my niece has just become vegetarian so i'll try out some of those things with her

I just gotta do it...
for anyone making their own veggie burgers, this is my favourite - it's from a veggie joint called Rebar: http://airyway.blogspot.ca/2009/12/reba ... table.html

HFS

SO. GOOD.

The trick is, to pack 'em really, really tight, once the ingredients are all set. Otherwise, they'll dry out and fall apart in the pan while cooking.
It took me a few tries to get it right. Still good eats though, even if they do crumble a bit...

Oh, yeah...
don't forget the wasabi mayo!!

I've been vegan for a couple of years (though, I do have to cheat around the holidays in order to not seem rude).

I don't really do fake meats (except smart dogs, which are silly delicious when topped with hummus-- which is a combination that basically guarantees hiccups), but I don't find it hard to find food. I do cook most of my meals, though.

Anyone else go vegetarian and suddenly realize how often people make fun of vegetarians just out of nowhere? That happened to me. I get a bit miffed when people say vegetarians/vegans are preachy because of that. Somehow "No thanks, I don't eat meat" is rude to a lot of people. It's silly.

I think a lot of that is either cultural, lack of education or both.
