Btw, I'm using like 24-84 and it's pretty damned good in E standard.

But, they're the only string makers that allow me to tune a 30"-scale six string to A standard, lower than my "real" bass

What gauges you using for that tuning out of curiosity and how's the tension? I'm really wanting to go lower than E-E, not quite A standard, but somewhere down there...

The tension is surprisingly decent, although more on the floppy side. I wouldn't mind the strings being tighter, but the entire guitar's an arts and crafts frankenstein anyway so it's fitting...I'm used to higher tension but my playing style is such that this doesn't really mess me up; you won't see me doing any quick little runs. Not like I know how to anyway, but...

If yr going to make something lower than standard bass tuning, that customizable Labella set should be the shit.

I'm curious....are you talking A standard one octave lower or just A standard, as in "one step lower than B standard" ("regular" baritone tuning)? Does my question make sense?

Yep, A standard in the bass register, like if you tuned a bass to E standard and then went lower.

Just got a candy apple red porn shop bass vi, I love it!

The only problem im having is that the low E is really out of whack. Intonation is off something horrible. Hopefully its just a minor setup problem.

I really like the 2nd selector switch setting (middle pick up and bridge humfucker)

Look into the new Staytrem Bass VI bridge, made to the original 1" spec allowing proper saddle travel to intonate that low E. Worked wonders on my Bass VI setup. :thumb:

read your thread for the Staytrem bridge. it looks great, but kinda expensive. all the other strings tune solid, its just the low E string that tunes really sharp on mine. Read something about a simple bridge mod on talkbass. I really hope its just the way the string is cut or just the saddle being setup badly.

Im glad other people here and other forums have ideas what to do with the 30" scale neck, other tunings, different sized strings, etc.

im glad there is such great resources online.

Saddle Bad... Get it set up if you don't wanna mess... For my Jazz and Bari I had the strings and took it in and $15 dollars later shit ruled...

Yeah, Im gonna take it to the guy that sets up my boss's guitars. supposedly the best guy in SA.

dont let what I say sway anyone from getting one if you have the means. Its a great feeling. looking. and sounding instrument. I know a lot of people online are bitching and moaning that its not the OG bass VI, but theres a lot to be had with the updated one. Im more of a guitar player, and this is my first bass, but you adapt really quickly to it.

Ok so FYI, chromes guitar strings will work-ish on a 30" if it is a 3&3 peghead.
