Yeah they don't actually say in the video. The one time the bass player tries to say something "real" he gets yelled at by the others. Non mosfet version.
Also, I like a some black metal, but more towards the newer more experimental end. Stuff like Krallice, or Wolves and the Throne Room or Altar of Plagues. But I have never been to a show where they put on corpse paint. I'm just not that into that side of black metal. I can dig the music and to some extent the messages they are singing about but I never really like the corpse paint. I guess it may just be for fun though. That being said, have you guys heard the band Panopticon. My bandmate just showed me the band and it is a mix between black metal and bluegrass.
so whats more important in getting a thick clean tone...pre-amp tubes or output tubes? this amp I'm looking at has ECC83's and EL84's...and i'm pretty sure that's what my Blackstar had, which was ok, but my Rocker 30 has ECC83's and EL34's, and sounds really good. Does the output tubes make the difference, or is a number of other variables that aren't easy to mod?

Output tubes make a big difference IMO to the clean tone. I never got a "thick" tone from EL84's, quite the opposite personally I found they hated having a lot of low end thrown at them. EL34's and KT88's on the other hand..... Those can be thick.

can it be easily done, ie just swap tubes? or does it require re-biasing or other type of work to make it work?
cant stick anything but 84s into an 84 amp. they are 9 pin tubes with sockets the size of preamp tubes. You also cant just stick in 88s to a 34 amp either with certain considerations

Unfortunately this. Which is why I gave up my Verellen Mod Jet City to Skully, I needed more low end, or atleast an amp that liked low end thrown at it. He somehow gets much better tones out of it then i ever did though.

They tune to "stupid." Direct quote from the video.
I think drop A# but I can't be sure?
That's it, I found an interview that wasn't blocked by my work with the bassist who says its drop A#. Thanks bud!
*edit* How is it that 2 of my fav bands tones (KWC and Young Widows) revolve around the MXR Micro Amp yet I never see anyone using them......
I just looked that up to check out their pedal boards since you posted that. And they call the modded mxr a Kowloon Walled Bunny. Pretty cool, I wonder how they modded it. The other guitarist in my band uses the dod250 which is pretty similar if I remember correctly.

Damn...i read it on some google searches i did, but i guess i didn't trust their opinion as much as you guys.
this trade would have been really good...if it wasn't for that issue!

There's info on the pedal out there somewhere, when i get back from lunch i'll see if i can find the deetz. It's making me ponder picking one up or having a clone made eventually.
new05002 wrote:i think u might have just had the wrong el84 amp. DoomTrain can really bring the low end
Tis entirely possible since Hovercraft can apparently get gobs of low end out of the same amp with different mods.

I haven't searched for the KWC but I have the layout for the mxr with wampler mods which I'm going to guess is pretty much what the KWC is. I was thinking about putting one together for my bandmate to play around with since he uses the dod. The layout blog also linked to this: http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/I ... _Mods.aspx which talks all about the pedal.
I have to say i wouldn't compare it with the blackstar even though it has the same tubes, it definitely has character...and it hand built etc, so its much better quality.
