Hang in there man. I was in your shoes for about a month after my 1st knee surgery and wen't a bit nuts. If I had to do anything important I'd write shit down. They had me pretty heavily medicated

Yeah they seem really good for a home player like me. I wouldn't mind picking one up somewhere down the line. And I hear you about heavy duty meds after heavy duty surgery. I turned my brain into mush after eating whatever they gave me for three weeks non stop after I had my first major surgery.

I watched 'Following' earlier today - Christopher Nolan's first film. Like a noir film. Very cool.

i'd go for the Kustom Defender or the VHT myself, most likely. the Class 5 might be too loud.

Yeah the VHT is looking like a good option, since I just found a 1x12 marshall cab for £120

So I had my wisdom teeth removed yesterday. Not nearly as bad as some folks made it out to be. Of course, I'm just considering it an excuse to be lazy, high on opiates, and watch movies/play games all weekend. Any movie suggestions are welcome. Bonus points for Netfilx.

So...my kid is now 4months old and I'm realising that I need to change my amp...I need a quieter amp head that can handle peals well, but something that has a nice clean too...I've been looking at the Ampeg GVT5, VHT Special 6, Laney cub, Marshall class 5, Kustom defender 5...any thoughts??

GVT, but go for the 15 which can still sound hella good at super low volumes. VHT Special 6 would be good as well since it's essentially a Champ. Having a baby on the way is the may way I keep my amp gas to a minimum these days.

That sucks man…I had my wisdom teeth out when I was in my early 20’s and I don’t remember much pain, but was knocked out for a few days…but count yourself lucky…back in the early 90’s you couldn’t watch stuff on internet and there was no Netflix…I had to watch crappy day time TV consisting of mainly Bold and the Beautiful, General Hospital…some shitty game shows and midday movie which was always a shit “made for TV” drama!

The Ampeg is very tempting, but I’ve read some really bad reviews of it. How does yours handle pedals?

The only redeeming feature of "The Hunter" is Bill's tone in the opening riff of Curl of the Burl. Otherwise, the whole thing is dog dump.

I agree and I hardly ever listen to Mastadon anymore, except for Crack the Skye…but I have to admit that, curl of burl was what got me in checking out other songs that sounded similar on youtube and somehow the Youtube engine put up Goatsnake and that was intro into doom, so although I don’t listen to it, it did introduce me to a whole new world.

Check out I Saw the Devil (2010)........... watched it yesterday and it is one of the best movies i've ever seen, definitely the best asian movie i've ever seen, even better than Oldboy to me. my mind was blown.

+ "snakes for the divine" has a bit more shine in the mastering which works better for some songs - in my opinion "surrounded by thieves" is slightly too blanketed - blessed black wings/death is this communion nails it

Snakes is probably my favorite album of HoF, not necessarily due to production or tones, I think the song writing on it was consistently more mature and more intricate then the other albums.

How about a Matamp? Call them up and ask about the Minimatt series, specifically if they're still building the reverb model or the one designed for pedals. They're around 6 watts from a single 6v6 and are about £550. You can then pick up a Marshall Class 5 on the cheap for a stereo rig and have someone modify it with powerscaling. It works really well on those low wattage designs and if anything adds to the value.

That’s a good shout…only problem is I have a budget of about £300…but I haven’t given up on the Class 5, i can easily add an attenuator to bring the power down then turn it up to break up and kick in some fuzz.

Also, on your question on the Wah pedal. I’ve gone through 2 Wah pedals, so not that much experience, but the one I currently have doesn’t have any of those problems, it’s the CAE Wah, it sounds and works brilliantly for high gain Distortion or Fuzz…I currently run Pharaoh + LSTR all the time and the Wah sounds great with it…so maybe have a look into one of those. They are not cheap, but I got mine second hand at a decent price, and it’s probably never coming off my board.

So back to my amp dilemma…is anyone here gig in London?

I’m trying to find out what the deal is with amps. My band will start gigging in about 2 or 3 months, from what I hear from a few people most venues have their own amps, which are not always great, but you don’t really have the option of taking your own gear in. Which I don’t mind, but if I do need to take my own amp, then I can’t really do the small amp thing.

I know I don't know you very well, and if I'm coming across as an asshole or out of line, its not intentional, and by all means tell me to fuck right off, but I don't think you need to go back to that place in your life. Sucks you were in the world of soap operas and judge shows when you had your teeth pulled. At least you had The Price is Right with Bob. The Ampeg has eaten up every pedal I've thrown at it. The eq is pretty tweakable as well. Can stay nearly clean with the gain and volume dimed with humbuckers as long as the mids are backed off some. It's not a sparkly Fender clean, so if that's what you want you may want to check out something else. I'm not much help beyond that since this is the first amp I've bought as a pedal platform.

As for the Class 5, remember that the combos have the low power switch and the heads have the headphone jack trick that apparently lowers the volume substantially.

Yeah, some friends of friends just did a cross-country no days off tour from Maine to the Bay Area... and they had to kickstarter like $1,500 just to only lose enough money in order to afford it.

They're pretty DIY folks, though, so we're talking basements instead of bars (and the cash flow that that provides). No idea how bands like Thou can pull it off.

I'm pretty sure that Thou has a rider with a guarantee, any band that tours as much as they do has to too survive. Alot of bands you wouldn't expect have decent sized guarantees, Sourvein is on average 4-500$ guarantee per show , and I'm fairly certain Thou gets at least that. My band has a 300$ minimum guarantee unless discussed before hand, or for things like benefit shows and showcase shows (where theres 10 bands in a night and nobody gets paid).
