It doesn't surprise me in the least that the song is only sub par. Black Sabbath were a great band, but they aren't any more. The only reason people will buy it is because it's Black Sabbath. So many bands, including my favourite example Mastodon, have rode the wave of success. They have tricked listeners into kissing their asses, no matter how shitty they become. Some fans don't buy into it, but the majority do. The Hunter was a pretty bad album, yet everyone bought it and everyone listened to it and almost everyone supported it. If a new band on the scene released such mediocrity, only a few people would buy it and only a few would support them.

Also how's your move working out?

It's moving along OK. I'm in no huge rush (but I want to be gone by the end of summer), so I'm taking my time and making sure it's what I want and need. My sister and her boyfriend are cool with me moving in with them, and they have an extension downstairs that I can put a bed in, a computer desk, and my gear. That'll be all I need, really. It's nice because it's unattached from the rest of the house and feels more like a granny flat. This should give me my privacy and sense of ownership, but also give my sis and her boyfriend their deserved privacy.

So the motor in my truck decided to take a shit yesterday, by the time i got home after work it was knocking so bad it sounded like a Latin Rumba

So now I have to raise up about 5-600$ to get my van back on the road since the truck needs a completely new motor. So I'm going to have to sell my Tele and whatever else I can find

So...my kid is now 4months old and I'm realising that I need to change my amp...I need a quieter amp head that can handle peals well, but something that has a nice clean too...I've been looking at the Ampeg GVT5, VHT Special 6, Laney cub, Marshall class 5, Kustom defender 5...any thoughts??

How about a Matamp? Call them up and ask about the Minimatt series, specifically if they're still building the reverb model or the one designed for pedals. They're around 6 watts from a single 6v6 and are about £550. You can then pick up a Marshall Class 5 on the cheap for a stereo rig and have someone modify it with powerscaling. It works really well on those low wattage designs and if anything adds to the value.

So I had my wisdom teeth removed yesterday. Not nearly as bad as some folks made it out to be. Of course, I'm just considering it an excuse to be lazy, high on opiates, and watch movies/play games all weekend. Any movie suggestions are welcome. Bonus points for Netfilx.

OK, do you like cartoons? Do you like Batman? Check out Under the Red Hood. It is amazing. I watched it this morning and I was incredibly impressed by it. I was surprised by how dark and awesome it was. Think Year One comic book arc from Frank Miller. And the actor who played Bruce is called Bruce in real life. That's reason enough to watch it. Prepare to be shocked by the violence though.

But if you aren't into Batman or cartoons, check out The Raid. It's on Netflix (at least in Ireland) and is totally bad ass. Or check out Hard Candy (also on Netflix) if you fancy something even darker and even more sadistic. But watch 50/50 if you want your wife to enjoy the movie too. I'm generalizing there. for all I know your wife could be more into Die Hard type movies than you.

GVT, but go for the 15 which can still sound hella good at super low volumes. VHT Special 6 would be good as well since it's essentially a Champ. Having a baby on the way is the may way I keep my amp gas to a minimum these days.

Not quite the same thing, but moving out has quenched some of my GAS. I still want a full stack from Ian and Phil with a Dunwich masterpiece or a Marshall Super Bass, but it would be totally pointless if I lived in a council house. The only thing I'm GAS'ing for now are things I need, like a quieter amp, a new guitar and a Timeline.

For some reason though I really like Bedazzled Fingernails from the Hunter. Otherwise meh but I really like that song. I think it is cause of the weird vocal effects. Makes it kinda proggy and ethereal.

But that title! What the hell were they thinking when they decided on Bedazzled Fingernails. They made a complete mockery of themselves.

I just remember going to Sonisphere to see them, and they played this awesome mix of Leviathan, Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye, with March of the Fire Ants thrown in, and being so in awe. Then I met them, and they were all rude except Brann. Then they released The Hunter.

They used to be my favourite band without a shadow of a doubt when I was 18.

Same. I've never met them, but I've lost a lot of love for them.

So last night John and I invited a guy that I had been talking to on Talkbass for awhile about coming down to jam with us on drums...and god damn, holy fuck, he was REALLY good! We went through our entire set with minimal hiccups. It was awesome and I got goosebumps. Seems like the guy is into it, too and willing to make the drive south from Seattle to come to practice. I'm fuckin' so stoked. My wife got a job yesterday, too!

Congrats, man. I love that feeling.

If you liked raising Arizona, check out wild at heart. really weird movie that kinda parallels the wizard of oz.

Wild At Heart was a fabulous tale. Nicholas Cage is often criticised and mocked, but back then he was truly and uniquely eclectic and awesome. The Rock and Wild At Heart are such classic films. The violence in Wild At Heart is really funny as well. When that guy's head gets blow off by a shotgun, that was genius.

we played a fantastic show in olympia last night. it was fun and a much needed respite from a really hard week. but hell, we didn't go on til 1 AM. would've been better with a little earlier schedule, but whatever, it was still great.

on the subject of bands being rude when you meet them, i have say, touring is really fun, but can also be really challenging and really stressful. it's impossible to always be in a chipper mood when meeting people. and particularly if you're a bit burned out and stressed out and something is going wrong, it can bring the whole group to a pretty sour place. it can sometimes be nearly impossible to not come off as a dick. on top of doing your job every night and keeping it together to put on a show, then having to try to be friendly to a hundred different passing faces can be impossible sometimes. to be judged for being an asshole just cause you're having a bad day isn't really fair. if the whole band was grumpy, there's a pretty decent chance something else was going on. don't judge too harshly or take things too personally. it's just how it happens sometimes. it's a passing interaction and the whole picture is often a lot bigger.

i don't know much about mastodon. i'm not really a fan and don't know them personally. for all i know they could be huge dicks, but in general, i think people are too quick to judge bands on stuff like this. i met them in passing once and as far as i remember, they weren't dicks or anything, though i didn't really talk to them or try to hang out.

yeah, i thought about posting on here about or letting folks know, but it's been a really fucked up week with some really heavy shit going down and all my attention was on that. lost a good friend this week and there were some complications involved that have been making it particularly crazy this time. i'll let you know next time. we had a great show and realized we really need to make the effort to get up for weekend trips to washington more often.
