Thankfully those I know who were close are safe.
I can't imagine that these horrible and disgusting acts continue to occur, I am simply at a loss. How sad for us all.
Special low-frequency version.

just in can any of you see people linking to an article about a Afgan wedding party being bombed by mistake (fail to see how the two are connected) it's from 2002, not today.

As far as I can see, the connection is about how people generally fail to really pay attention to acts of atrocity until it happens in their own back yard. Way more Americans have walked down Boylston Street than have been to Kabul in peacetime, so it seems more visceral to them and weighs more heavily on the societal Richter scale.

Not saying I agree with that, just offering my two cents.

Ditto. Someone or ones out there is a big time asshole. Hopefully they find some solid leads soon and it doesn't turn into a witch hunt.

i don't have any words for this kind of shit any more. i don't really even care who WINS any more, unless the perp group is hella evil or intends to outlaw music a la revolutionary Iran. i just want it to STOP.

A few friends and I were at the Marathon and close enough to hear the explosions, but didn't know exactly what was going on until I got a fuck ton of calls from people asking if I was near the bombing and if I was okay. Scary fucking shit.

totally valid. however, i know people who have been involved with the sort of thing that happened at the wedding, and it weighs on them forever.

My wife and I were there to support our friend who was running. Fortunately she's a fast runner and had finished a little under a half hour before this happened. We had hung out, took pictures, lots of hugs and congatulations and were on our way to the T when we heard the explosions. I've done 3 tours in iraq as an infantryman and when everyone stopped and started wondering what that noise was. I just told them don't worry about it and keep moving so we don't have to deal with crowds on the subway. Our first news about what happened was when the train announced they would not be stopping at park or the next one. A guy was on his phone and confirmed it was bombs. We got to our hotel and went to a 99's and that's when we saw how bad it was.
Our friend has been training for years, finally managed to qualify and her elation and triumph was shattered and she was close to tears. This is a tough lady I'm talking about.
My own feelings are a bit off. Trying to deal with rage and anger and nowhere to direct it.
The worst of course are the dead and injured. Runners who have lost legs. What a nightmare. I'm trying to be a more peacefull man nowadays but shit like this makes me want to carpet bomb somebody. Anybody.
That's not right, or rational but its there. We we're right where it happened a few minuted before the bombs went off. Our friends were there. My wife was there. Therapy here I come :p
I can't even begin to get into how horrific this was for those who were at the finish when it went off. So evil

Thoughts, prayers, and good mojo out to everyone nearby or involved in it. I can only imagine the stress on some of our ILF'ers in Boston and the area. Especially those that were there or had friends and family running/watching.
