This is such a pain in the ass. If someone, somehow, helps me get a job in Geneva (and that company would have to help me get a work permit) I will give them a guitar or bass of mine, of their choice.

Dunno what Switzerland is like but if its anything like here I'd say the labour market is a lot less fluid than the States, and that if you aren't speaking German or French you might find it hard to compete. But if there was a field where you can get around on English, you're in it.
Careers/employment offices at universities tend to suck, bit what about getting in touch with the local universities and seeing what they can do?
Another option is to study something for a semester and look for work- develop contacts during that time. Not good for bank account, but a good way to buy some time to gain local knowledge.

I've decided that I am most likely going to do this. I may also apply to a Master's program. My family will help out with costs if they're for education.goroth wrote:Another option is to study something for a semester and look for work- develop contacts during that time. That's what I did man
If you choose wisely you're both boosting your career should you move back home, or positioning yourself well for a future in that country. Another good thing to do is get involved in student organsiations - it's a good way of increasing your contact network, and of doing something that has some sort of value in the local community. By value I just mean like market value, you know, people know what it is. Showing your involvement in a community is also a good way to create the image that you are a safer card.
There are some great universities in Switzerland as well so that's a plus.

Also, may as a result of this be in Switzerland for 3 years instead of 2. Which makes me think living in Europe may end up being a more or less permanent thing.
