I am going to write the directions for how to do this simple mod (an LED ((or two)) a pot, two switches and one cap) and print it up so it looks like religious tract.
I think it would encourage a lot of folks to pick up a soldering iron.
Or I would rehouse it, add a few blah blahs voltage starve and stuffy stuffs
put a picture of Rambo with an owl's head or Picard or Tiny Danza or all three with the pedal name silk screened.

Sonny Simpson also play with c10 and c12 and there are a few different values of c3 to try that yield good results if you are using a non red LED for the clipping diode mod you can use the red one in the ds-1 instead and then have a different color LED on the outside that say "i am a different DS-1 and i am special"
Jason Luchka I really want to try this, but i tend to cook parts when i solder. Do you use a variable heat iron, or are you just not sucky at soldering (like i am)?

It's a DS-1 !!! They're everywhere! It's not precious.
It could be a few things but its about heating up your work and applying solder to that and not the actual solder tip. And you know how they say clean the tip? If you're using a wet sponge you have to wait for it to heat back up but if you use the equivalent of steel wool in an ash tray. (i think those are available at small bear electronics) it cleans it but you don't have to wait for it to heat back up. The size of the solder helps. having your pedal in a handy vice (or even just vice grips duct taped to a surface) so you're not trying to solder and juggle at the same time . if you blow it you can have a friend and/or forum help you and you'll learn something. You will then feel confident to maybe try a kit or build your own patch cables. and as a last resort send it to me and I'll mod it.

Sonny Simpson These are just a few steps from what is available all over the Internet. A friend of mine made a huge box w the intention of doing EVERY mod to it. (Never went down but a neat idea)
Sonny Simpson What I mean to say is all you have to do is try these mods with alligator clips soldering and some practice.
