Driving - two feet or one?

Post by hclapp219 »

So I'm renting a car in Europe this summer, and to practice for my left foot having to operate the gas/brake, I've started pedaling with my left foot on brake when driving an automatic here. I'm so used to just operating a clutch with that foot that I stop down pretty hard, coming to some fairly abrupt stops. Does anyone here drive with two feet on an automatic? Any tips besides just practicing? Or any tips for driving on the wrong side of the road?

Most people in europe drive manual.
Rental fees in europe for automatic are ridiculously higher than manual, mainly because they know most americans don't know how to drive stick.
If you're renting it for a long period of time i would just recommend renting a manual transmission car over there and just getting the hang of it.

I learned to drive on the wrong side of the road.
1. Remember street signs are on the other side too.
2. To not drive in the middle of the road like a dickhead, simply line up where your hood squares off with the line on the side of the road.

One foot, the left is for clutch only.
Remember Steering wheel and driver to the center of the road, makes shifting from left to right hand drive easier.
the pedals remain in the same order.
the dificulty I had was shifting left handed it took a bit of getting used to.

im bout to come to the states for the first time (been to hawaii thou...so done a bit of driving on teh opposite side to what im used to)
LOL if the foot pedals were also reversed!!

i did recently go to burma/myanmar...most interesting driving/traffic there. because theve only recenlty allowed imports... the cars there area mix of LH and RH drive...majority being RH drive which is fine as thats what im used to...cept...they also drive on the right side of the road!!!
being a passanger and turning Left = a view of head on traffic!

Wow, I thought the pedals were going to be reversed as well! So I should be fine then. I can drive stick no problem, so it'll just be using my left hand to shift that will be new. Phew. Thanks dudes!

I was always under the impression that it didn't matter what side the steering wheel was; the right side or the proper side, the pedal arrangement was always the same. Also; FUCK you if you can't operate a clutch. Quit being a pussy and learn how to drive.

living in SF i had to learn to heel-and-toe the brake/clutch in order to start/continue up a hill because you had to feed the gas very carefully so you don't kill the engine. but yeah, in general i saved my clutch foot.

One foot. I'm usually using my left foot smoke a cigarette. My left hand is for eating donuts and my right for drinking coffee, red bull, any other beverage which may or may not have alcohol added. My right leg is the only I need to drive.

man that would be the most faarked up shit. ive been driving manuals/clutches for all my life as i prefer the control (as much as i hate being stuck in peak hour)...

i remember for shits and giggles just seeing how using hte left foot on the brake would be...instant dashboard/steering wheel faceplant!
if the accelarator was on the left...faark...id be wrapped around a tree.
