Exactly, I can throw my bass any which way and there's no resistance (this is with heavy duty straplocks of course).

foomanfat wrote:I'm in the "going crazy on stage" camp and all my couch straps are vinyl.

I'm not saying they don't work perfectly for that by any means, I just like a lighter strap that slides easily when going crazy on bass. I use the vinyls on my guitars because I usually do more "complicated" stuff on guitar so I like em to stay in place while I'm going nuts.

tl;dr: Vinyls grip, Seatbelts slide, they're both comfortable but its up to you to decide which meets your needs better. :thumb:

Which straplocks are you using duder? I got Schallers and I don't know if I'm sold. Also got a Dimarzio strap thing which is unfuckingbreakable but extremely permanent. And it always slides loose from the length that I like to "slightly too long".

I use the GFS heavy duty strap locks, usually in black. They are the lift ring type that go all around the peg and pop on, not the schaller type that go 3/4 the way around and slide on. And I have that same Dimarzio strap on my epi V and it does the same thing, luckily for me I just leave it at max extension and its about the right height.

Thanks bro. When the new guitar comes in I'll do it up with GFS strap locks. And a couch strap!

The seatbelt feels like a seatbelt, the vinyl feels like a couch.

No problem! and sounds like you got yourself one mean plan! :thumb:

I,Galactus wrote:Hey AA, I just got a set of those in chrome for my tele project knowing nothing about strap locks whatsoever  .

Any installation tips?

1) reuse the original screws IF possible. (sometimes they fit in the new buttons sometimes they dont, if they do make sure to use them)

2) when putting the button on the strap part put some threadlocker or a small dab of nail polish on the threads before tightening it down, especially if the strap end is thicker. (never had an issue with the couch ends causing the buttons to loosen up but I do have a Levy's that is quite a bit thicker and I couldnt tighten down the button tight enough to stay on.)

I,Galactus wrote:Derp, shoulda linked to the project page.

It's a blank unfinished body, so I'm drilling new holes from scratch, using the screws that came with the strap locks, etc.

Ahhhhhhh ok. It's pretty simple really, use a grease pencil (or any other marker that comes off easily incase you mark incorrectly) to mark where your gonna install the buttons / receivers on the body (I'd look at other tele's to see the usual spots they're put at), use an 1/8th inch drill bit to drill a pilot hole about 1/2" deep, then once your done staining the body its just a straight up single screw install.
