Dropped the majority of my tax return on a custom Verellen Loucks/Skyhammer hybrid.

Been after a Loucks for a long time now (HUGE YOUNG WIDOWS FAN!), just love that amp and it's insane versatility considering it's a pretty straight forward one channel design. Welp, after catching Young Widows live yet again last week and talking to Evan about his amps, I cracked and emailed Ben the following day to discuss a slight mash up with the Skyhammer since it seems super badass too. We got all the details figured out, 4-6 weeks and it should be at my doorstep, excited! Gonna run it with my Dunwich Metropolitan, should compliment one another nicely.

Also, Finally got my V4 out of our jam spot and back home for once. It's an early 70's model, sounds fucking killer but weighs so goddman much ugh! Gonna fix it up a bit cosmetically, found an original nameplate and such, but the electronics are original and clean as fuck (Sylvainia 7027a tubes included) plus it functions flawlessly for now. Do love. Need to use it more but the volume is just astounding. Only mod is a master volume and I love it, doesn't fuck with the original tone and reigns things in a bit. I truly hate carrying this amp though, always waiting for the handle to just fucking snap under the extreme pressure.

They can be really tough to find.

http://www.fliptops.net has the best selection of original and replica vintage Ampeg parts I've ever seen but those knobs are rarely available and there's no clones around. When they do have 'em stocked, they're nearly $40 apiece. Oh, and only one per customer limit. Brutal.

I thought today'd be a good to day to get out and about and post somewhere other than the Doom Room. This is my fancy amp. When you see it you'll think I must be rich but NO! My DR buddies all know the saga but I'll tell it again because this is a new forum for me. I live around the corner from Soldano and one of my bestest bros of all times is the guy who does their tolex and such. He let me borrow his SLO which has the depth mod. It was the best thing I ever played through in my life so I had to get one somehow. Well Mike gave me a bit of bro-down deal and also let me get on a payment plan. Because he's a saint! So I paid and paid for like a year or more. Then my finances went to shit and I couldn't pay for like six months. At the end of that six months we took a show with his band The Industry People. I was raging a mig100 and a Pharaoh at the time. So we blew that place up just like the rest and when we were done the first person to rush the stage all aglow was Mike. He said, "We need to get you that amp man! Come by the shop if you got time and we'll see about putting you to work.". So on Monday I went in and was assigned to build footswitches. I built like 115 of 'em or so and then there was no parts left so I got put on cutting pot shafts. After that I was allowed to install my transformers, tube sockets, etc and also build my super secret SRV mod board. Then it was left in the capable hands of one Don Blair (guy who builds most amps and all of the SLO's). Do I even have to say this thing is a beast from outer space?

Thanks! It was a labor of love for all parties involved. I was the first to go green but I've been copycatted a couple times now.

Also Bassboar, that is a hell of an avatar! <3 Joe Preston.

That is a great story, I'm glad it all worked out for you. I'm attempting a similar long-term amp deal, with either a custom Dunwich beast or a Verellen Meatsmoke at the end of the road.

anyone ever think about
puttin an effect circuit
in these custom amps
like rrr reverb
that would kill if the rrr knobs
were on the face of my amp
like built in boutique effects

I saw some boutique amps years ago that utilized a Spring Chicken for the verbz. Don't recall who it was but Scott at Axe And You Shall Receive pointed 'em out to me. I'd def be throwing the RRR in my amp if I had the option tho, fatty selector knob to cycle through all that awesomeness. Yes please. Good call ryan summit. :thumb:

I don't think it was a Spring Chicken exactly (well maybe it was), but probably just a Belton Reverb chip that they put in the spring chicken. IIRC malekko was just the first to use it in a pedal format, but today you can get the neunaber wet, eqd ghost echo, hermida Reverb + others.. quite a few amps used the Belton Reverb chip in their circuits.
here's a thread on TGP about it

Yeah, that's probably true. Scott just kept saying Spring Chicken but he was probably alluding to the Belton Brick all along...
